About The Position

We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Mechanical Engineer III with a strong focus on HVAC system design to join our growing team. This role is responsible for leading the mechanical scope on small to medium-sized projects of intermediate complexity, including new construction, renovations, and process-driven facilities. The Mechanical Engineer III will manage HVAC and mechanical utility design efforts, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure high-quality, code-compliant, and constructible solutions. This position offers the opportunity to act as Engineer-of-Record, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the development of CRB’s technical standards and project delivery excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (mechanical focus) from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing.
  • Experience in HVAC and mechanical utility system design within an AEC firm.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in life sciences (pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory) or food & beverage industries.
  • Familiarity with GMP manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and building codes.
  • Experience with industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, OSHA).
  • Intermediate experience in plumbing design and documentation.
  • Familiarity with Revit plugins (e.g., Enscape, Unifi) and parametric tools (e.g., Dynamo, Grasshopper, Rhino).
  • Strong coordination skills across disciplines and with construction partners.
  • LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design credentials or experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and support field implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of HVAC systems including airside, chilled water, heating hot water, steam, and exhaust systems.
  • Develop mechanical utility systems such as compressed air, natural gas, and process piping.
  • Perform engineering calculations including load analysis, pressure drop, and equipment sizing.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation including: Design reports, narratives, and specifications P&IDs, system schematics, plans, and installation details Energy modeling and utility assessments
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, clients, construction managers, vendors, and trade partners to ensure integrated and constructible designs.
  • Manage mechanical discipline scope, budget, and schedule on assigned projects.
  • Support proposal development, task planning, and project scheduling.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts and participate in internal design reviews.
  • Conduct field surveys, identify non-compliant conditions, and support construction administration activities (e.g., RFIs, submittals, punch lists).
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers and contribute to internal training initiatives.
  • Act as Engineer-of-Record for small to medium-sized projects when serving as Lead Mechanical Engineer.
