Senior Mechanical Engineer, Aviation

Flock SafetyAtlanta, GA

About The Position

Flock Safety is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Aviation Engineering team. As we expand our Drone as First Responder (DFR) vertical, this role is critical to the execution and refinement of our small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) as they move into high-volume production. You will join the Airframes division to own the mechanical design and iteration of our Alpha quadcopter platform. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will bridge the gap between concept and the manufacturing floor. From solving real-world vibration issues to ensuring seamless integration with docks and payloads, you will be the technical lead for making our flight hardware production-ready.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design (Aerospace, Robotics, or EV industries preferred).
  • You should be highly comfortable with complex assemblies, Solidworks PDM, and applying GD&T standards for production parts.
  • Proven experience designing for scale in assemblies with 200+ parts.
  • Hands-on experience designing for plastic injection molding (draft, wall thickness, gate placement) and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Experience developing and running mechanical test plans (vibration, thermal, drop tests) and using that data to iterate on designs.
  • Understanding of vibration damping and shock isolation for sensitive electronics, flight controllers, or gimbals.
  • You thrive in 100% onsite, fast-paced environments and are willing to jump on the manufacturing floor to solve a problem in real-time.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of at least one major sub-assembly or payload integration project.
  • Execute DFM/DFA feedback cycles with vendors to simplify current parts and reduce assembly cycle time.
  • Work cross-functionally with the Electrical Engineering and Autonomy teams to ensure mechanical-thermal constraints are met.
  • Become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Alpha airframe’s mechanical reliability.
  • Drive the transition of designs from "prototype" to "mass production," ensuring every design change is validated through rigorous testing.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians on CAD best practices and assembly standards.
