The Hardware Engineering, Advanced Airframes Department is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer that will be located on site in Tucson, Arizona. The role is REA of a major missile section assembly and it's components. Tasks will include design, integration, and test of mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across engineering teams to ensure successful hardware performance, usually demonstrated through flight tests.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test, preferably of defense-related components or systems
  • Experience in airframe development, or electronics packaging, or mechanisms, for missiles or similar applications
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware
  • Experience with CAD design tools and best practices
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • DoD Clearance: Secret

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering disciplines
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test, preferably of defense-related components or systems
  • DoD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance
  • Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience in Creo Parametric and Windchill
  • Experience with thermal and structural analyses or with analysts to specify requirements and design to environments
  • Experience with effective communication (written and verbal) during collaboration with others to document design actions and results, to perform trade studies, and to communicate with program management and customers through presentations and reports
  • Supplier interaction and supplier management experience
  • Ability to travel to government and supplier facilities in support of program activities (10% travel possible)

Responsibilities

  • Work across engineering groups to propose, design, develop, integrate, and test hardware within the Advanced Airframes mechanical design department
  • Technical ownership and execution of tasks, and may be viewed as prime technical contact, providing solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems related to the design, manufacture, and integration of various mechanical sub-systems.
  • Perform and review tolerance analysis to ensure form, fit, and function are as intended by design for the use-application.
  • Improve new and existing designs using Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and Design for Producibility principles.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment.
  • Communicate across engineering , working with engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements
  • Work under limited supervision and act as the responsible engineer often in a project management role over entire subsystems within an effort.
  • This role may also include leading small teams in the completion of above tasks.
  • Serves in mentor role to junior engineers, providing technical guidance to others within mechanical engineering.
  • Direct, delegate and review the work of other engineers and collaborate across multiple functions and disciplines, such as supply chain, operations, quality, systems, analysis, and electrical.
