About The Position

Pacific Fusion is looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our growing target fabrication team. You will work with a diverse group of talented engineers and physicists to design precision components and assemblies for use on Pacific Fusion’s pulsed power fusion system. You will be responsible for creating models and technical drawings, with involvement in all stages from initial design to fabrication and final inspection.

Requirements

  • Strong background in creating engineering drawings and modeling in CAD, preferably with Creo
  • Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams through engagement with engineers, machinists, and technicians to achieve engineering solutions
  • Experience in document and drawing control in a centralized database to track revisions and process development changes
  • Understanding of modern manufacturing processes including precision machining, additive manufacturing, and inspection techniques to ensure manufacturability and that all design criteria are met
  • Demonstration of strong problem solving skills with attention to detail while meeting schedule deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to give and take feedback in a highly collaborative team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with small components requiring micron geometric tolerances and nanometer surface finishes
  • Understanding of modern precision machining capabilities to include single-point diamond turning and 5-axis precision machining centers
  • Strong understanding of tolerance stackups in complex engineering assemblies
  • Leadership abilities with a history of providing guidance to less experienced team members

Responsibilities

  • Create models and technical drawings of high precision components and assemblies that range in size from less than a millimeter to centimeters
  • Maintain model and drawing files in an organized database
  • Design engineering assemblies that will be integrated into Pacific Fusion’s demonstration system
  • Work with a team of engineers, physicists, designers, and technicians to come up with creative design solutions that take into account manufacturability and scaling to high throughput production
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews across interdisciplinary teams
