The Senior Mechanical Designer 1 will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead designer for moderate to complex projects, and lead design efforts with limited support from senior staff for larger and high complexity projects. This role involves working closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and advice to clients. Primary responsibilities include project management, engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry, working within project budgets, assisting in training and mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required in the building design consulting industry OR 11 years of experience minimum required in the building design consulting or construction industry (with an Associate's degree or certificate)

Nice To Haves

  • 8 years of experience preferred in the building design consulting industry
  • Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
  • 12 years of experience preferred in the building design consulting or construction industry

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively
  • Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
  • Provide in-process design reviews of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection system design, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements
  • Provide technical training and mentoring
  • Provide technical assistance in resolution of field issues with limited support from senior staff
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering
  • Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Participate in project interviews and project presentations
  • Other duties as assigned
