Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Lidar Test Systems

Aeva TechnologiesMountain View, CA
74d$181,300 - $245,300

About The Position

Aeva's mission is to bring the next wave of perception to a broad range of applications from automated driving to industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, security, and beyond. Aeva is transforming autonomy with its groundbreaking sensing and perception technology that integrates all key LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip in a compact module. Aeva 4D LiDAR sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, allowing autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions. We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the mechanical design of our test and qualification systems.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience with detailed design, development, and validation of mechanical assemblies.
  • Good understanding of design for test (DfT) and design for manufacturing (DFM) for optical components-silicon photonics & IIIV, camera or Lidar systems and PCBA.
  • Experience with test engineering and associated instrumentation and thermal management for photonics components such as die scale photonics integrated circuits, laser, and detectors arrays on subassemblies.
  • Experience with Lidar test systems and associated infrastructure for calibration.
  • Experience with test fixtures and load board design for custom testers used for photonics as well as semiconductor industry standard HVM ATE testers.
  • Experience with test & measurement instrumentation such as tunable laser, detectors, frequency counter, pulse generator, oscilloscopes, optical & electrical spectrum analyzers, RF measurement instruments and ATE platforms.
  • Knowledge in manufacturing processes with various metal and plastic materials (including machining, die-cutting, die-casting, and injection molding).
  • Experience with SolidWorks for designing test fixtures for motion system integration, DUT socketing mechanical design, and DUT thermal management.
  • Good understanding of geometric optics.
  • The ability and desire to design in CAD and be hands-on with assembly and test.
  • A desire to learn, innovate and express your ideas in a fast-moving collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design fixtures and stations for testing in the manufacturing line, all components of the Lidar system such as photonics components, optical modules and assemblies, PCBAs and scanner systems.
  • Collaborate with product design and manufacturing teams to design novel Lidar performance, calibration, and reliability test for our Lidar and other sensor products.
  • Lead the bring-up of testing equipment through the entire product design lifecycle including vendor management and install at contract manufacturers factory.
  • Interface with ATE vendors and other test hardware suppliers, OSATs, and contract manufacturers for DFT and DFM feedback, part quoting, and procurement.
