About The Position

The Mechanical Commissioning Senior Specialist provides technical expertise and project leadership across the full commissioning lifecycle for critical facilities. This role supports MEP design reviews, leads functional testing of complex mechanical systems, and collaborates with engineers, contractors, vendors, and client teams to validate and optimize newly installed and operational systems. The specialist works independently day-to-day, receiving high-level direction on new initiatives. They lead commissioning efforts and project teams on complex assignments, coordinating personnel and ensuring all work aligns with organizational goals, values, and departmental objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction or related discipline or two years’ experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of mechanical and controls infrastructure.
  • Minimum eight years’ additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of mechanical and controls infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and controls system principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately.
  • Skilled in analyzing and preparing technical documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including client-facing interactions.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, managing priorities, deadlines, and pressure effectively.
  • Capable of planning and delegating tasks across project teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in remote and on-site environments with strong self-motivation and proactive problem-solving.

  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and improve operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on-site inspections, validation, functional testing, troubleshooting, and verification of mechanical and controls systems using appropriate technical equipment.
  • Participate in factory witness testing and observe startup activities.
  • Direct vendors and contractors during testing and commissioning activities.
  • Serve as primary site contact, onboarding project teams, coordinating resources, forecasting needs, and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Develop project proposals (scope, schedule, budget) with supervisory input and manage project timelines, risks, and cost controls to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Develop comprehensive commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test scripts for complex projects
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and sequences of operations.
  • Lead and participate in commissioning-focused design reviews
  • Prepare and oversee project communications, progress reports, and final commissioning reports for stakeholders and clients.
  • Manage personal and project team hours using company tools.
