We are looking for a talented Senior Materials Engineer (Plastics) to join the Nordson EFD product design team. In this role you will be responsible for independently applying principles and practices of polymer science and engineering to implement new materials and processes for our precision injection molded syringe and barrel family of products.

  • Lead development of next generation polymer compounds, custom blends and formulations needed for new product designs and processes.
  • Evaluate and recommend polymers and polymer blends for a wide variety of injection molded products, primarily using PE, PP, and nylon.
  • Review part and mold designs for DFx using tools like Moldflow.
  • Develop Qualification plans, conduct design of experiments, analyze data using scientific methods and present conclusions.
  • Develop materials processing parameters, processing limits, and implement new technologies to improve materials processing and throughput.
  • Provide expert recommendations for supplier selection and alternate sources of key raw materials.
  • Initiate Engineering Change Requests as needed.
  • Help improve process capability and cost as well as determine root cause and develop corrective action related to quality issues in manufacturing.
  • Bachelors plus 6 years or Masters plus 2 years of experience in advanced Injection Molding in a high-volume manufacturing setting required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of polymers relative to thermal, mechanical, and rheological properties, and able to modify these properties to obtain desired results.
  • Experience working with additives to enhance or modify polymers to obtain desired properties.
  • Experience with Plastic injection molded part design, injection mold tool design and Moldflow analysis.
  • Ability to craft clear engineering documentation (Specifications, standard operating procedures, ECOs)
  • Have creatively and collaboratively solved problems with experience in failure analysis, root cause investigation, Design of Experiments and FMEA.
  • Strong communications skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with a global team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering Polymer Engineering, Polymer Science, or related field.
  • Masters Preferred
