About The Position

APS is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our ports and maritime team. This role will lead structural design efforts for marine projects, including piers, wharfs, bulkheads, fender systems, and other related structures. You will collaborate with local and national teams to expand APS’s maritime practice, foster client relationships with port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, and shipyards, and contribute to national project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the FE exam, Professional Engineering (PE) license, and minimum of 7 years of structural engineering experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering with 6 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and structural design codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE-7).
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with structural analysis and design software is a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience leading large projects, delegating work tasks, and resolving team issues effectively.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and quantitative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, collaboration, organization, mentoring, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews of detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Nice To Haves

  • EPC (Engineer-Procure-Construct) project experience preferred.
  • experience with structural analysis and design software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design from conceptual phase through project completion for marine and waterfront projects.
  • Participate in developing project fees, schedules, scopes, budgets, and staff planning; manage change orders effectively.
  • Apply expert knowledge of structural engineering concepts, codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE-7), and procedures to complex projects, including non-standard design solutions.
  • Perform quality reviews of production drawings and ensure adherence to QA/QC processes.
  • Participate in construction administration, including coordination with field personnel, resolving design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and materials testing.
  • Lead field inspections, installations, or analyses for public and private clients; prepare and present technical reports.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, customers, and contractors; identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts, including development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
  • Prepare and present project budgets, cost estimates, and performance reports.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines and ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, adhering to all APS policies and standards.
