We are looking for an experienced Senior SMT Engineer with extensive experience in high volume consumer electronics applications to join our US team. You will manage and continuously improve manufacturing processes and bring strong improvements to assembly methods across NPI and sustaining products. As an SMT Engineer, you will drive technical topics in the manufacturing process at the CM, and upstream at component suppliers in the supply chain, and collaborate with the Manufacturing team globally. Your focus is on ensuring world class standards for SMT production and supply. You are located at the interface of Oura Manufacturing, R&D, and Supply Chain. You will work alongside our Global Manufacturing teams, R&D Engineering teams and CM factories to develop and ramp NPI programs, supporting the mission critical goal of quality and quantity. As an SMT Engineer you will feel comfortable working hands-on at the factory floor and ensuring Oura machinery runs reliably and produces good quality products to Oura customers. This is a hybrid role that requires 3 days a week in our San Francisco office.

Requirements

  • Proven track record working in/with consumer electronics manufacturing.
  • Hands on experience of electronics assembly processes, and collaboration with factories.
  • Experience in miniaturized product designs.
  • Experience in contributing to product design (DFM), design of manufacturing tooling and manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process parameters and statistical process control as well as experience in developing and fine-tuning process control methods and improving yields.
  • You work collaboratively and effectively in a complex environment and with cross-functional teams, external parties, and factories.
  • Systematic and organized way of working.
  • You effectively identify and set priorities for the tasks at hand.
  • You feel comfortable working with written and spoken English.
  • Possibility and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time; both internationally and domestic

Responsibilities

  • Own the SMT component manufacturing and assembly processes by working between manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and design functions to implement world-class SMT solutions for current and future OURA products This includes setting specifications on critical to quality characteristics to improve product performance and implementing robust IQC/OQC standardization
  • Evaluate the supply chain footprint with regards to integration of SMT to FATP
  • Assess the current structure and advise on the input of SMT components to SMT manufacturing; this includes providing input to design on current and future products on recommended processes to be included (such as underfill)
  • Review and improve process capability at both the SMT component and ring assembly supply chain nodes, including standardization of best practices
  • Work with the Quality function to understand current and projected field failure rates, then propose and implement solutions to improve field performance to enhance the customer experience
  • Make assessments on the capability of current and potential future vendors to influence the supply chain strategy for current and future products
  • Collaborate closely with process, design, and automation engineers to evaluate key processes for automation based on criticality to design and supply requirements
  • Work independently and prioritize workload with travel required for up to 25% of the time
  • Report the performance of the processes to NPI program and Oura Manufacturing team.
