The Senior Managing Director oversees the fundraising for the School of Science and Engineering at UMKC. This role involves leading fundraising activities in collaboration with the Dean, providing leadership and management for development efforts, and managing a portfolio of major, planned, and principal gift donor prospects. The position requires maintaining positive relationships with donors, partnering with Foundation Leadership, and overseeing recognition events and communications for the school's donors.

  • Lead and participate in a comprehensive major and principal gifts program as well as planned gifts for the UMKC School of Science and Engineering.
  • Facilitate active relationships with assigned prospects to match UMKC's funding needs with prospects' interests.
  • Identify, cultivate, and qualify prospects; solicit and close major gifts to meet or exceed individual and team goals.
  • Work with prospect research staff to evaluate and prioritize donor prospects and maintain a balanced portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop and implement an overall strategic plan for major gift solicitation.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a Director of Development for the School of Science and Engineering.
  • Establish and meet individual and team goals; conduct annual performance evaluations.
  • Promote a team dynamic within the Foundation and foster collaboration with other schools and colleges.
  • Recommend changes in policies, systems, and procedures to enhance fundraising performance.
  • Meet with Dean and Development Director to further fundraising performance.
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • At least six years of development experience.
  • Experience in fundraising management, major gift solicitations, and planned gift solicitations in higher education.
  • Knowledge and experience working with corporate and foundation donors.
  • Evidence of achieving successful results in previous positions.
  • Experience building and executing campaigns.
  • Familiarity with the characteristics of a comprehensive university.
  • Knowledge of major gifts moves management and planned giving vehicles.
  • Experience in administrative principles and practices related to development activities.
  • Flexible schedules and telework arrangements available.
