About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Manager, Data Governance to support the Director of Data Enablement & Governance in building and operationalizing comprehensive, end-to-end data governance program across Walmart Claims Services (WCS). This role will implement governance standards, processes, and capabilities aligned to enterprise data policies and th Enterprise Data Strategy Framework, enabling the business to confidently access, understand, trust, and use data to drive decision-making, ensure compliance, and increase data value. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliant data access, responsible data sharing, and lifecycle governance across internal and external data consumers. The ideal candidate is a strategic, execution-oriented leader who can drive adoption of governance practices across business and technology teams. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, data owners, Product, Engineering, and Analytics to embed governance into day-to-day operations and data product delivery, while also serving as a Business Data Steward and a key point of contact for data governance across WCS. About the team The Data Enablement & Governance team at Walmart Claims Services (WCS) is focused on transforming how WCS makes decisions by delivering governed, high-quality foundational data products that enable seamless, self-service insights.

Requirements

  • Strategic thinker who can align governance practices with enterprise data goals and long-term business value.
  • Strong collaborator and influencer, capable of engaging stakeholders across business, analytics, product, and engineering
  • Proficient in data quality management including defining rules and monitoring KPIs
  • Experience managing metadata and business glossaries, with the ability to connect technical and business definitions for broader understanding.
  • Hands-on and execution-focused, able to operationalize governance into daily processes
  • Ethical and compliance-minded, with awareness of regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) and their impact on data use.
  • Curious, resilient, and adaptable, capable of navigating ambiguity and evolving organizational needs.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, industrial engineering, engineering management, business,information systems, project/program management, information technology, finance, management, or related area and 5 years’ experience inproject management, program management, program operations, or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years’ experience in project management, program management, program operations, or related area.
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Data Governance & Stewardship Implement and operationalize data governance standards, policies, and processes aligned to enterprise data governance objectives and the Enterprise Data Strategy Framework.
  • Define and support the governance operating model, including data owner and data steward roles, processes, and escalation paths.
  • Build and support a network of data owners and data stewards across Walmart Claims Services and drive adoption of governance practices.
  • Serve as a business-facing steward accountable for aligning data governance decisions with business outcomes, risk tolerance, and regulatory obligations.
  • Metadata, Data Quality & Issue Management Oversee business glossaries, data dictionaries, metadata standards, and consistent naming conventions across systems and reports.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to define and implement data quality rules, validation checks, KPIs, and monitoring processes.
  • Facilitate data issue management, including root cause analysis and coordination of remediation efforts with data owners and technology teams.
  • Provide input and guidance on data governance and cataloging tools, including the Enterprise Data Portal (EDP).
  • Data Access, Data Sharing & Privacy Enablement Define, implement, and govern data access standards and processes to ensure appropriate, role-based, and policy-aligned access to data assets.
  • Partner with Information Security, Privacy, and Legal teams to ensure data access and usage comply with enterprise security standards, privacy requirements, and regulatory obligations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Establish and operationalize data sharing frameworks, including internal data sharing agreements, third-party data sharing considerations, and approval workflows.
  • Provide governance oversight for sensitive, regulated, and high-risk data, including classification, handling requirements, and usage restrictions.
  • Enable secure and compliant self-service data access by balancing risk management with business agility Enablement, Delivery & Measurement Partner with business stakeholders, Product, Engineering, and Analytics to embed governance into day-to-day operations and data product delivery.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for data governance questions, issues, and guidance.
  • Champion data literacy, training, and awareness to ensure data is understood and used correctly.
  • Define and report on data governance KPIs and maturity metrics, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
