Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience working on tax planning, including 'Big 4' public accounting firm and/or large law firm experience
  • MS or LLM in Tax required
  • Strong knowledge of income tax technical rules, global tax legislation, tax audit procedures, and intercompany transfer pricing, with the ability to read and interpret tax laws and regulations and communicate them succinctly to tax department leadership and non-tax stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with non-tax business partners and stakeholders
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead through influence to achieve tax planning objectives
  • Strong interest in process improvement and experience in implementing tools for process improvement or data collection management is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business leaders and advisors to identify and implement tax planning opportunities that meet Company goals and objectives
  • Develop and maintain clear workplans for tax planning projects, including identifying, vetting, and implementing opportunities, including conducting tax research and technical analysis for planning
  • Partner with internal corporate teams (such as Legal, Treasury, Accounting, HR, GBS and others) to complete internal diligence on tax planning opportunities and ensure smooth execution
  • Partner with Tax department colleagues to ensure appropriate tax provision and tax compliance considerations and conclusions are completed for tax planning projects
  • Ensure appropriate documentation on all transactions is obtained and maintained in an organized and centralized SharePoint site
  • Work cross-functionally with Tax department and other Baxter stakeholders to collect information needed to respond to information document requests and to build audit defense files
  • Collaborate with Senior Tax counsel and other tax department teammates to draft and review written responses to audit requests, memoranda, and other correspondence
  • Participate in audit discussions with IRS, foreign tax authorities, and external advisors
  • Develop and communicate defense positions and overall strategy and execution for specific tax dispute matters
