We are looking for an Engineering Manager who is passionate about orchestration and scheduling of workloads and applications across diverse deployment environments. As an Engineering Manager at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. You'll be working in the platform engineering group, part of Shared Services. You'll help define safe golden paths for deployment across large fleets and enable developers to go faster while staying safe.

Requirements

  • Experience building software used by 1000s of users.
  • Integrate regular user feedback into software development practices, and leverage customer feedback to drive features with a focus on always delivering value.
  • Awareness and authentic interest in learning in areas such as Golang gRPC principles, infrastructure operations, large language models.
  • Regularly give feedback to team members on wins, and areas to improve.
  • Lead a team where individuals enjoy coming to work, know what needs to be done, and have the resources to get their job done.
  • Efficiently manage the team to deliver value for users and the business.
  • Identify issues impeding software development (across all phases of a service lifecycle from conception to maintenance) and collaborate with the team to resolve and improve.
  • A commitment to delivering scalable reliable systems.

  • Chef and Hashicorp Nomad experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of back-end engineers developing tools and guardrails that allow the cloud to scale.
  • Develop efficient team methods to adroitly deliver value to our customers.
  • Develop Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and utilize these Key Results to measure and report on the success of the team.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define roadmaps to build the next generation of products.
  • Review and give input on architectural system designs.
  • Lead the charge to operational excellence and keep toil in check.
  • Pair with leads on delivery of features, and resolutions of defects.
  • Career coaching including performance assessment, and career development.
  • Escalation path for the on-call rotation, and drive improvements post incidents.
