About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Software Engineering (UI / Full-Stack) to lead a high-performing engineering organization responsible for customer and associate facing Instore and Online Returns returned in store experiences. This role requires a strong front-end engineering leader with deep expertise in React, React Native, Angular, modern UI architectures, and front-end CI/CD, combined with full-stack depth across Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Kafka, and cloud-native micro services. You will drive engineering excellence across UI architecture, scalable distributed systems, DevOps maturity, and cross-functional delivery with Gen AI based modernization roadmap aligning with Walmart Global Tech. About Team: Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

Requirements

  • Front-End & UI Expertise Strong hands-on knowledge of: React React Native Angular Modern JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems Experience designing component-driven architectures Expertise in front-end CI/CD pipelines Experience implementing accessibility standards and WCMP compliance Performance optimization for large-scale web applications Familiarity with design systems and UX collaboration workflows
  • Experience 6+ years in software engineering leadership roles Proven success building and scaling high-performance UI and full-stack teams Experience in SaaS, enterprise product, or high-scale online systems
  • Leadership & Communication Strong stakeholder management Ability to communicate technical strategy clearly to leadership Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Track record of predictable and consistent delivery
  • DevOps & Engineering Practices Experience with CI/CD pipelines across front-end and backend Test automation frameworks (UI + API) Design for scalability, availability, extensibility, and resilience Agile methodologies and DevOps culture
  • Full-Stack & Distributed Systems Strong understanding of: Java / Spring Boot RESTful services Event-driven async architectures (Kafka or similar) Microservices architecture Experience with: Cloud-native application patterns Multi-threaded systems High availability & fault-tolerant design Multi-tenant SaaS platforms Knowledge of NoSQL databases and data modeling at scale
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. 2 years’ supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Leadership Build, mentor, and scale high-performing UI and full-stack engineering teams Establish clear engineering vision and technical strategy aligned to platform goals Raise the bar on design rigor, delivery predictability, and engineering quality
  • UI & Front-End Architecture Lead architecture and implementation of modern front-end applications using: React React Native Angular Define reusable UI component libraries and scalable design systems Drive WCMP-compliant and accessible UI standards Ensure high-performance, responsive, and mobile-first experiences Establish front-end observability, performance benchmarking, and telemetry standards
  • Full-Stack Platform Ownership Oversee backend systems built on: Java / J2EE Spring Boot REST APIs Kafka NoSQL databases Design and review microservices and event-driven architectures Ensure fault tolerance, high availability, and scalability Promote “Returns-as-a-Service” multi-tenant architecture patterns
  • Engineering Excellence Own engineering practices: CI/CD (front-end and back-end pipelines) Automated testing (unit, integration, E2E) Code quality and review standards Secure coding and compliance Drive DevOps maturity and cloud-native deployment models Partner closely with infrastructure and SRE teams
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with Product, UX, Architecture, and Program teams Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions Identify risks early and communicate effectively with senior leadership Drive technical design reviews and Proof-of-Concept initiatives
  • Global Delivery Lead distributed/global teams Establish operational excellence and strong release governance Deliver industry-leading capabilities at scale
