About The Position

Our team creates reusable technologies to help with customer acquisition, onboarding, and empowering merchants, while ensuring a seamless experience for both of these stakeholders. We also optimize tariffs and assortment in accordance with Walmart's Everyday Low-Cost philosophy. We not only create affordability, but we also deliver customized experiences for customers across all channels - in-store, mobile app, and websites. The Walmart Emerging-Tech group is a new group charted to drive the creation of the next generation retail and shopping experiences for both online and in-store. The group leads Walmart's efforts in the areas of Conversational AI, Voice Assistants, Extended Reality and more. As the Walmart Conversational AI team, we are building completely new capabilities to allow our customers to shop by seamlessly interacting with their connected devices using spoken language. This team as part of the Emerging Technologies group builds new multimodal experiences both in-house and in collaboration with strategic partners. We have launched experiences like Sparky mobile app for customers. As a Senior Engineering Manager in Emerging Tech at Walmart, you will lead a global team of talented engineers focused on building next-generation platforms and full-stack services that power exceptional customer experiences. You'll be at the forefront of shaping the future of retail through cutting-edge technologies, driving scalable solutions that impact millions of customers worldwide.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years of hands-on full-stack development experience and 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to design, build, and scale full-stack, cloud-native technology solutions.
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks (including mobile), and app store deployment processes.
  • Experience in retail, e-commerce, or other large-scale consumer-facing platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and backend integration patterns.
  • Demonstrated contributions to open-source projects, developer communities, or technology evangelism efforts.
  • A track record of inspiring teams, driving innovation, and delivering measurable business impact through technology.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 2 years' supervisory experience.

  • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams across Walmart's global technology ecosystem to deliver cohesive and impactful solutions.
  • Engineering Excellence & Execution: Champion engineering best practices, code quality, and operational rigor. Drive a results-oriented mindset focused on scalability, performance, and sustainability.
  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the technology roadmap aligned with business priorities. Promote a build-for-scale mindset and foster continuous improvement within your teams.
  • Customer Impact & Ownership: Demonstrate strong accountability and urgency in solving complex technical challenges that enhance the customer journey and drive measurable business outcomes.
