About The Position

As a Senior Engineering Manager within Sam's Tech, you'll be leading the team responsible for the development and deployment of our Data Platform Infrastructure. This team of software engineers provides the foundational "lakehouse" on which Sam's data science, analytics, and reporting is built upon. Providing a stable, secure, and performant platform is key to the future success of our business initiatives. What you'll do: Lead and Mentor: Oversee a team of talented engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and career development opportunities Technical Leadership: Drive the design, development, and implementation of cloud-based lakehouse solutions. This includes: Modernizing data processing environments and associated capabilities Implementing robust monitoring, alerting, and reporting Automating routine tasks and improving operational efficiency Enhancing system performance, scalability, and availability Customer Focus: Prioritize end-user experience in all aspects of platform development Innovation: Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (product management, engineering, etc) to achieve shared goals Technical Expertise: Stay abreast of the latest technologies and industry best practices in data platforms, orchestration, and visualization/consumption tools

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineering Manager or a similar leadership role related to the data platform space.
  • Strong technical expertise in relevant areas, including:
  • Cloud computing platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS), Kubernetes
  • Experience with large-scale data processing using Spark
  • Experience with Google Cloud data platform offerings
  • Experience with Databricks and/or Dataproc
  • Data analysis and visualization
  • Agile development methodologies
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Passion for customer experience and a strong drive to exceed expectations.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 7 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 2 years' supervisory experience.

  • Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
