We are seeking an accomplished Sr. Engineering Manager to lead our Pricing domain within Product Engineering. Pricing is at the core of Grainger's business. This team owns how we create, calculate, and surface prices across every channel Grainger operates. You will oversee a distributed organization of approximately 15 engineers across three teams, directly managing the Primary Pricing team and developing an Engineering Manager who leads two additional teams: Pricing Programs and Pricing Data Products. Success requires a leader who is fluent in data engineering, distributed systems, and high-throughput APIs, and who can navigate the complexity of building reliable, scalable pricing infrastructure that the rest of the business depends on. You will report to a Director in Product Engineering. The work location will be Downtown Chicago on a hybrid basis. Highly qualified remote candidates will be considered provided they are available for onsite onboarding and a minimum of quarterly travel to Chicago.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of work experience in a technical capacity.
  • 3 or more years of people management or team leadership.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related study or equivalent project-related experience.
  • Ability to weigh multiple facets to make strong decisions in an enterprise environment with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Ability to use data to make decisions about the work and impact.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to conduct effective performance conversations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills ensuring effective collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Experience working with onshore/offshore contractors and managing vendors.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with analytics or data engineering teams in building or deploying data intensive applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Pricing Engineering Domain
  • Lead the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement across three pricing teams, ensuring reliable delivery of pricing capabilities.
  • Oversee the Pricing Workstation and its role in competitive price calculation, driving quality and reliability for internal business users.
  • Directly manage the Primary Pricing team and support an Engineering Manager responsible for Pricing Programs and Pricing Data Products.
  • Build a strong, inclusive, and high-performing culture grounded in psychological safety, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
  • Drive clear goals, accountability, and autonomy across your teams.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, career growth, and succession planning across the organization.
  • Strengthen agile practices, engineering quality, observability, and operational rigor across all pricing teams.
  • Use metrics to assess system health, delivery velocity, and business outcomes.
  • Partner with peers across GTG to remove blockers, align strategy, and prioritize wisely.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineering partners to support pricing intelligence and algorithmic pricing initiatives.
