About The Position

We are adding two Senior Managers, Risk & Security – 1x East Coast and 1x West Coast to our team. These are hybrid roles balancing requirements between remote and on-site working at our NYC and LA offices. The Senior Manager roles are also expected to travel up to 30% of the year both domestically and internationally. Versant requires a diligent and proactive risk and security approach - business operations must be safely enabled and not constrained. The context in which we operate is fast-changing, risk is a part of the business, and we need creative and analytical contributors. We are seeking solution-focused professionals to join our team and play a critical role supporting the company’s mission. Reporting to the global chief security officer, this Americas-based role will provide regional coverage working closely with departmental colleagues, newsrooms, business managers and other key stakeholders to deliver a range of risk and security services. Requirements

  • Experienced in applying risk management, security, and training solutions.
  • Experienced in implementing procedures that resolve operational and security issues associated with challenging safety and security situations in austere, less developed, and/or conflict environments
  • Experienced in successfully handling incidents and emergency situations from identification and support to review and analysis. This includes communicating with leaders and working with all stakeholders to ensure business resilience
  • Willing and able to travel ~30% of the year both within and outside of the United States
  • Willing and able to work on-site at our NYC and LA offices, as required
  • Interested in global events with a good understanding of how social/political/conflict dynamics can affect risk
  • Mission focused and committed with the willingness to handle a sometimes-irregular schedule and dive into ambiguous, challenging situations
  • A critical thinker with the ability to understand complex situations and provide unique solutions
  • A collegial, dynamic, and proactive contributor with a desire for continuous learning, development, and career growth

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying risk management, security, and training solutions within a media organization
  • An understanding of the relationship between newsgathering, risk, and digital/physical safety
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese and/or other regionally relevant languages

Responsibilities

  • Work with colleagues in Global Security to ensure relevant current and emerging risks to the organization and its people are effectively identified, assessed, communicated, and mitigated.
  • Forge exceptional relationships with people across the company and its publications.
  • Provide a source of sound judgement, advice and counsel to staff, contractors, and decision makers on risk, security and operational challenges.
  • Contribute to all best practices adopted by the Global Security organization to include planning, process improvement, risk mitigation and responding to new challenges.
  • Using already-established tools and systems, support functional goals and responsibilities in high-risk support, workplace & event security, training, equipment management and investigations.
  • Play a key role supporting incident management through aggressive and active intervention, coordination, information provision and problem solving while providing compassionate and reasoned support to those involved.
  • Participate in industry working groups and follow trends in risk management and digital and physical security, the threat landscape (especially as it relates to media companies), best practices and solutions, available technologies and service providers.
  • Multi-task regarding communications and coordination, research, operational planning, logistics, and administrative tasks
