About The Position

The Senior Manager Renewable Energy will lead and manage renewable energy projects across North America, focusing on the USA. This role involves negotiating contracts, establishing risk management protocols, and serving as the primary expert on renewable energy technologies. The position is crucial for advancing BASF's commitment to net zero scope 2 emissions by overseeing both the development of renewable power assets and the acquisition of renewable energy through long-term supply agreements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or Chemistry (or equivalent) preferred.
  • 10+ years of working experience in business and project functions, including 7+ years in energy and power markets in the US.
  • Deep understanding of market rules and operations in Texas energy/power markets and power trading in ERCOT.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and regions.
  • Strong business sense, negotiation, communication, analytical skills, and financial acumen.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage renewable energy projects in North America, focusing on the USA.
  • Lead negotiations for renewable energy projects and ensure project progression.
  • Manage Derivative approvals and proper accounting for projects in alignment with finance and controlling groups.
  • Align closely with BASF Renewable Energy in Ludwigshafen for project evaluation and negotiation tactics.
  • Serve as the NA representative in the PPA Expert Team (PET) and manage existing signed contracts for Renewable Energy in NA.
  • Act as the point of contact for ERCOT, managing electricity purchase and risk management for main ERCOT sites.
  • Manage relationships with Qualified Scheduling Entities and Power Marketing Companies in ERCOT, including issue and retirement of RECs.
  • Initiate the establishment of trading capabilities focused on RECs and power.
  • Act as the point of contact for businesses regarding their Green Power needs and establishing RECs supply.
  • Provide coaching to junior members on negotiations and market dynamics.
