About The Position

The Senior Manager - Remediation and Contracting Environmental Programs at the Port of Seattle is responsible for managing a team of environmental professionals to address complex environmental issues, particularly in remediation and contaminated site cleanup. This role involves overseeing compliance with environmental regulations, negotiating regulatory requirements, and managing substantial funding and contracts. The position requires strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and advance the Port's environmental goals.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience in environmental and/or sustainability, including three years supervising staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Public Policy, Planning, or Engineering.
  • Certifications as a Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Expertise in environmental management, regulatory compliance, and remediation.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable protocols for decision making.

  • Experience in public finance and construction operations.
  • Knowledge of emerging environmental issues and cleanup liability strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of environmental professionals supporting controversial and politically sensitive programs.
  • Oversee negotiation of complex regulatory requirements and intergovernmental agreements.
  • Establish and implement remediation programs ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Plan, schedule, assign, and direct the work of environmental staff in assigned programs.
  • Perform full supervisory responsibilities including evaluating performance and administering discipline.
  • Develop outreach strategies for diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Partner with External Relations to develop communication plans.
  • Manage funding and regulatory issues related to the overall program.
  • Identify grant opportunities and advocate for funding with Government Relations.
  • Oversee development of complex consultant contracts including scopes and budgets.
  • Establish best practices and strategies to achieve port-wide environmental goals.
  • Use data analysis to develop policies and strategies for project advancement.
