About The Position

General Description: Responsible to identify, design and develop a product/product family. Ensures production procedures efficiently utilize materials and personnel. Tests finished product for quality purposes and recommends changes to product specifications as necessary. They receive and process changes required by clients, released on production (not launches), at a SR Level, responsible to develop the product from the concept up to the SOP on a limited basis (if it is a BTP, Built to Print) or as a full development as an FSS, Full-Service Supplier. May develop, uncover, characterize, and assess strategic new products and/or product extensions. Transforms and adopts discoveries to ensure research and development activities will maintain an organization’s competitive position. Will lead a team for a specific project. May also focus on pure research and/or design and implementing the manufacturing processes and equipment for the product. Position Specific Requirements (PSR): Experience in leading a team in the development of a new process/product. Experience in dealing directly with the management level at the customer without direct support from their manager. Experience in the Design, development and engineering of multiple Interior commodities IP Door Floor Console Hardtrim Overhead Experience in the following Key Technologies Injection Molding Lamination of Coverstocks (Vac-forming, Press Lamination, Bladder Wrapping) Assembly of Parts Vibration Welding Sonic Welding Heat Staking Screw/Clip Attachment Experience in Second Tier Technologies that would be a plus in a candidate’s consideration. Hybrid Injection Molding Compression Molding Cut & Sew Experience in other Technologies that would be beneficial. Foam In Place Laser Scoring Knife Scoring (Sonic or Cold) Punch Trim Waterjet Trim

  • Ability to manage a diverse team with different experience levels.
  • Managing their available resources as needed to be successful.
  • Ability to work with managers/leaders from other teams as needed.
  • Comfortable in working directly with the customer in various independent situations.
  • Self-motivated and able to lead their team, at times, with little guidance from their manager.
  • Ability to define product requirements to the customer.
  • Ability to communicate customer wants/questions to support teams and then communicate guidance and design/tooling criteria back to the customer.
  • An in-depth understanding of engineering discipline documents (DFMEA, DVP&R, EBOM)
  • Comfortable in creating, maintaining and updating the above documents as needed
  • Basic understanding of GD&T, gage/fixture design and build

Responsibilities

  • Lead internal weekly design reviews.
  • Track engineering changes through an ECN/RFQ system and help initiate if needed.
  • Support analysis of dimensional data and corrective action for product concerns
  • Understand and support various team disciplines (PFMEA, APQP, DFA, DFM, DFE, LPMP, PDM, DFSS
  • An understanding of FEA/CAE development and be able to communicate expected inputs/outputs needed for the design to be successfully evaluated for FEA/CAE.
  • Ability to then analysis the outputs and suggest design improvements as needed.
  • Team Center Experience
  • Initiate DR’s and DTR's for required design work and data transfers.
  • Cut sections/take measurements
  • Maintain engineering open issues and evidence documents
  • Ensure customer expectations are being met or exceeded
  • Utilize lessons learned and continuous improvement activities to ensure robust designs
  • Responsible for the execution of initial engineering release and subsequent changes
  • Provide launch support, including onsite at IAC and customer manufacturing locations.
  • Ability to manage/track their team’s budget, provide guidance to their manager as needed for any potential.
  • Develop/Mentor their younger staff members and support their overall team’s long term development.
  • Drive the overall company process and requirements.
  • Willing and able to engage with their manager as needed to address: Team member shortfalls, issues with support groups, potential customer escalations, operational issues, etc. Budget shortfalls.
