American Express is on a multi-year journey to enhance our focus on Privacy compliance as well as Customer data handling and transparency. As part of this journey, EDMP is establishing the Global Privacy Center of Excellence. This role will sit within the Privacy Center of Excellence to define and execute privacy activity and risk mitigation activities including control implementation by defining standards of care for privacy activities across the enterprise for all processes and technologies. This role will coordinate across business units and markets to set control guidelines and identify opportunities for improvement in relation to privacy risk.

Requirements

  • A strong strategic approach with 5+ years prior experience including implementation of privacy controls.
  • Experience in privacy risk and/or aiding in risk detection/mitigation processes and creating standards of care.
  • Proven track record of driving results in a fast-paced environment often with significant ambiguity and needing to make decisions with less than perfect information.
  • Track record of being able to be a subject matter expert and using enterprise-thinking to quickly identify areas of improvement.
  • High degree of organization, individual initiative and personal accountability and resiliency.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and encourage partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple demands successfully within a matrixed organization.
  • Enjoy solving large and complicated problems.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude

Responsibilities

  • Ensure integration of privacy controls embedded across existing systems and capabilities and support continued maintenance.
  • Establish a privacy risk framework that will help to create a baseline for tolerable risk thresholds across Enterprise.
  • Translate privacy requirements into clear technical and business control requirements.
  • Support privacy-by-design initiatives by embedding controls into existing systems and processes.
  • Collaborate with risk teams to assess privacy risks and ensure appropriate handling of sensitive data.
  • Maintain an inventory of privacy capabilities across the Privacy COE and federated teams.
  • Coordinate training efforts to promote effective control implementation across the enterprise
