About The Position

As a Senior Pricing Manager within Pantry & Consumables (Candy & Snacks), you’ll partner directly with Merchandising team on daily pricing decisions. From competitive analysis and strategic price cuts to managing seasonal transitions and clearing inventory effectively. You will lead pricing strategy for a high-complexity group of categories, balancing margin, competitiveness, and member value while clearly communicating insights to leadership. This is intentionally a hybrid role: about 70% focused on executing strong pricing fundamentals and driving business performance, and 30% dedicated to building AI-driven pricing capabilities. The goal is to prototype and scale tools that improve decision speed and competitive visibility, while strengthening relationships with key stakeholders. Success requires strong pricing expertise, sharp analytical skills strategic thinking, and natural curiosity. This position is based on-site in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in retail pricing, merchandising strategy, business development, or related leadership roles
  • Deep understanding of competitive pricing, P&L management, and margin trade-offs
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to balance merchant objectives with competitive analysis
  • Advanced analytical skills, including Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas), SQL, and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)
  • Experience managing projects within a large merchant organization
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively across a matrixed leadership environment
  • A naturally curious, AI-forward mindset with a passion for solving member problems
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Business, Marketing, or related field and 4 years’ experience in merchandising, retail pricing, sourcing, operations management, finance, marketing, or related area OR 6 years’ experience in merchandising, retail pricing, sourcing, operations management, finance, marketing, or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop & Modify Pricing Strategies: Lead comprehensive pricing strategies across high-complexity categories based on volume, competition, penetration, and product mix. Define KVIs, benchmark competitors, and leverage Sam’s pricing systems to balance margin, competitiveness, and member value.
  • Analyze Performance: Oversee performance across pricing strategies by analyzing sales, profit, margin, in-stock, markup, and markdown trends. Maintain clear scorecards and performance metrics.
  • Benchmark Competitor Margins: Evaluate trade funds, cost components, and supplier increases to ensure fair pricing. Conduct market analysis to understand competitive on-sale/off-sale strategies.
  • Communication & Influence: Present pricing strategies and competitive insights to leadership. Serve as the voice of the competitive price gap and clearly communicate performance results across levels.
  • Execute Promotional Pricing: Partner cross-functionally on item selection, event strategy, and price validation, ensuring compliance with company philosophy and legal standards.
  • Build AI-First Capabilities: Prototype and scale AI-powered tools that improve pricing visibility, competitive intelligence, and decision speed.
  • Lead & Develop Talent: Train and coach pricing associates, build a strong team culture, manage performance expectations, and elevate analytical capability across the team.
  • Drive Business Plans & Operational Excellence: Identify customer and operational needs, set priorities, remove barriers, measure progress, and adjust strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Promote Company Standards: Ensure compliance with company policies, ethics, and the Open Door Policy while modeling strong leadership behaviors.
