About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated leader to join the Toast Payments team and play a key role in our continued growth and making data-driven improvements. The Payments Optimization, Senior Manager will be responsible for identifying and providing valuable insights in payment processing optimization and driving improvement, both internally to Toast and for our customers. Toast processes billions of dollars every year and this role will drive high impact decision-making through analysis, reporting and strategic guidance. This role will have substantial leadership exposure and deep partnerships with Strategic Finance, Business Intelligence, Product, Strategic Alliances, Operations and New Ventures. Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive, high-impact experience in Analytics, Data Science, or technical Product Management, with a required focus on the payments or Fintech industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully identifying and executing complex, data-driven strategies that resulted in measurable revenue growth and margin improvement.
  • Deep domain expertise in complex payment processing implementations, including a granular understanding of interchange, acquiring economics, and network operations.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and proven experience wrangling and analyzing massive, complex data sets to solve ambiguous, high-stakes problems.
  • Proven mastery of data visualization tools (Sigma,Hex, or similar), with the ability to design and build scalable, executive-level dashboards and reporting.
  • World-class analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail, with a strong foundation in statistical methods, experimental design, and root-cause investigation.
  • Exceptional strategic acumen, demonstrating the ability to distill complex technical and market challenges into clear, actionable frameworks and influence senior-level decisions.
  • Advanced communication and influencing skills, with a proven ability to navigate and lead in a cross-functional, global, and fast-paced environment.
  • A tenacious, results-oriented mindset, with a documented ability to balance rapid execution and "getting things done" with the paramount need for platform stability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, or another quantitative field; Master’s degree is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with a statistical programming language (e.g. R, Python) preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the end-to-end lifecycle of optimization initiatives, from opportunity identification and ROI modeling to validation, execution, and post-launch analysis.
  • Architect and own sophisticated ROI frameworks to quantify and prioritize complex, long-term, and previously unidentified opportunities for revenue growth and margin expansion.
  • Define the long-term payment optimization strategy, anticipating disruptive industry trends and translating that vision into a concrete, prioritized product roadmap with measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as a senior thought leader and subject matter expert on the acquiring industry, maintaining unparalleled knowledge of interchange and network programs.
  • Pioneer the integration of AI/ML methodologies to evolve and shape next-generation payment optimization opportunities, driving improved experiences and efficiency.
  • Forge and command a strong network of internal partnerships, influencing and aligning senior leaders across Data Science, Architecture, Finance, Legal, and Operations.
  • Lead the near real-time monitoring and analysis of all payment processing costs, driving actionable insights and cost-saving initiatives in partnership with BI, Engineering, and Finance.
  • Master the art of data storytelling, translating complex statistical analyses and experimental results into compelling, actionable recommendations for executive leadership.
  • Drive the definition of core data sets, schemas, and analytical frameworks, visualizing and tracking key metrics to provide a comprehensive view of the payments ecosystem.
  • Design and interpret rigorous, inferential analyses and A/B experiments to measure the causal impact of new Fintech offerings and identify systemic patterns.
