Job Summary The Senior Manager of Conflicts leads and develops the department’s operations team, ensuring both high technical standards and effective people management. This role is responsible for safeguarding the accuracy of conflict checking processes, maintaining data integrity, and driving continual improvement through the use of technology. By fostering a high-performing staff and implementing best practices, the Senior Manager enhances client service, manages risk, and supports organizational compliance with firm policies. This leader collaborates cross-functionally and serves as the department’s technical authority, while cultivating ongoing professional growth and engagement within the team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate persuasively, clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing with management, attorneys, and staff and outside parties; and to make presentations to small and/or large groups in an effective manner.
  • Proven ability to recruit, supervise, develop, and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in serving as a technical authority, including the ability to oversee the design and implementation of new technologies or upgrades to existing systems—particularly legal conflicts software such as Intapp and 3E—with a proven capacity to effectively train Department personnel.
  • Ability to provide quality client service and maintain effective business relationships with both internal and external contacts, to address issues with legal matters. Involves the use of considerable tact, discretion, negotiation skills and persuasion in gaining the agreement or cooperation of others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard accounting and/or budgeting principles and the ability to monitor and manage budgets within established limits, analyze financial data and draw accurate conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply innovation to the area and firm challenges to identify problems, and propose and implement solutions.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and optimize workflows for greater efficiency and quality.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data from a variety of sources, apply critical and creative thinking to draw conclusions or develop solutions to complex problems.
  • The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • The position requires a minimum of 6 years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience that included direct supervision of others on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Overall management of department’s non-legal staff performance and development, staff levels (work schedules, leave requests, lunch hours, etc. ) and oversight of distribution of work to ensure appropriate prioritization and efficiency.
  • Oversees conflict checking process, new matter intake, and related research to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in partnership with department leadership and other key stakeholders.
  • Evaluates, documents and improves operational procedures and services relating to new matter intake and evaluation using technology; champion adoption and integration of new systems and software.
  • Develop and test contingency plans to ensure operational resilience and data integrity in the event of disruptions.
  • Implement and monitor processes to protect firm and client information, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical requirements.
  • Lead and participate in special projects such as client due diligence, lateral clearance, and department organization changes.
  • Design and deliver training for new hires, including conflicts attorneys, and ongoing technical upskilling across the department.
  • Primary interface with technology vendors to include project management, troubleshooting, training, upgrades, implementation, as well as analysis of alternative product offerings.
  • Work closely with Client Services, Pricing and Accounting teams to enable seamless client onboarding and address compliance matters.
  • Contribute to budget planning, monitoring resource allocation, and ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
