About The Position

Cherry Bekaert’s Strategic Financing Services team is looking for a Senior Manager of Compliance and Asset Management (SFS Senior Manager). Strategic Financing Services (SFS) by Cherry Bekaert specializes in New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs), Historic Tax Credits (HTCs) and numerous other local, state and federal credits and incentives. We help our partners raise, deploy and manage capital in low-income communities across the country from rural non-metro census tracts to urban core historically disinvested neighborhoods. We work with borrowers, Community Development Entities (CDEs), lenders and investors to understand and simplify complicated tax credit and incentive financing structures; locate and secure the resources needed; and successfully navigate through the process to financial closing. We help bridge the knowledge gap, serving as a guide, and closing the financing gap bringing much needed revitalization, services, resources, and jobs into underserved communities. About SFS: SFS has been involved in the NMTC industry since its inception and to date has secured over $2 billion in NMTC funding. SFS is proud to have structured and facilitated NMTC investments that have created 28,077 direct jobs, served 957,153 clients through community facilities, and helped create over 10.6 million square feet of new and improved commercial and industrial real estate. SFS’s current portfolio consists of investments in areas with poverty rates as high as 66%, median family income as low as 14.24%, and unemployment rates as high as 31.2%.

Requirements

  • BA in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in community development finance, structured finance, or commercial loans strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of tax credit financing with specific experience with NMTC required, with specific experience with CDFI Fund’s AMIS reporting strongly preferred
  • Experience in working with CDEs, lenders, investors
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Strong sense of urgency and shared sense of mission

Responsibilities

  • Assist with underwriting and structuring NMTC transactions ensuring compliance with tax code and executed allocation agreements
  • Review community benefits agreements and plans for implementation
  • Review loan closing documents and reporting requirements to incorporate into the Compliance and Asset Management system
  • Prepare annual CDE compliance reports to the U.S. Treasury Department’s CDFI Fund via the AMIS reporting system
  • Monitor CDE compliance with NMTC Program and Allocation Agreement including performing Sub-All and Redemption testing
  • Collect and analyze QALICB certifications and community impact information
  • Collect quarterly project level financial statements and compliance reports and perform financial and compliance analysis of information
  • Maintain quarterly risk ratings for assigned portfolio
  • Post-closing, communication with borrowers, lenders, and investors
  • Other job-related functions as assigned
