The Senior Manager of Lift Maintenance will provide leadership, management, and direction to the Lift Maintenance department. This position will also assist the Director of Lift Maintenance and the Director of Mountain Operations with oversight of other departments within Mountain Operations when needed. Together with the Mountain Operations leadership team, this position will help ensure the overall success of the mountain in terms of the following: daily operations, team development, and future on mountain planning and strategies that will drive our safety culture as well as guest and employee satisfaction. The Senior Manager of Lift Maintenance will directly oversee our Lift Mechanical team, with broader oversight of the entire department. They will also play an important role in developing and maintaining a safe, inclusive work environment. Training, budgeting, ordering, inventory, and coordinating with various other departments are also important aspects of this position. Strong logistics, planning, and scheduling skills will also ensure success in this role. Our Lift Maintenance department is a strong team of supervisors, mechanics and electricians of different levels, and support staff.

  • Oversee the management and administration of our Lift Maintenance team to produce an exceptional employee and guest experience
  • Coach and motivate a high-performing supervisor team. Ensure the management team and employees are aligned with Vail Resorts' goals, values and core competencies. Develop leaders within the scope of this position's responsibility to improve leadership within current roles and prepare them for increased responsibility.
  • Maintain an "expert level" status of lift maintenance functions, being proactive with industry trends within Vail Resorts and within the industry as a whole.
  • Be a leader in the effort to improve safety within mountain operations with the goal of reducing/eliminating worker and guest injury. Coordinate closely with the Manager of Health & Safety regarding the same.
  • Prioritize and adapt in a constantly changing business and environmental setting.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with key managers within Vail Resorts
  • Oversees preventive maintenance activities of the technical staff
  • Develops maintenance strategy and project plans using a continuous improvement mindset
  • Develop, assist, and oversee the budgeting process, capital planning, and forecasting in order to meet financial goals
  • Oversees and assists in troubleshooting lift systems
  • Oversees lift maintenance parts ordering ensuring adequate inventory both on-site and at the warehouse
  • Develop and research the long-term needs of lifts at Beaver Creek
  • Manages various projects assigned by the Director of Lift Maintenance
  • Works closely with the Senior Manager - Lift Electric to provide overall management of the Lift Maintenance department
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, and development of all lift maintenance personnel
  • Assure that all records required by Beaver Creek, Vail Resorts, and the authorities having jurisdiction are maintained and kept up-to-date including all mechanical and operational procedures, daily maintenance, operational logs, lift failures and incidents
  • Responsible for team conduct, training, Lift Maintenance Dept. Policies, Vail Resorts policies, and ensuring paperwork & procedures are completed in a timely manner
  • Assure that Director of Lift Maintenance is immediately informed and consulted on all abnormal or unusual conditions, incidents, or system malfunctions
  • Actively participate in the Vail Resorts Lift Maintenance Best Practice Group
  • Able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Strong financial management, communication, leadership, organization, and team-building skills
  • Proficient in use of desktop computer systems and applications
  • Valid Driver's license
  • General knowledge of the ski industry and lift operations
  • Positive, solutions-oriented leadership
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions (winter/summer)
