About The Position

Mesabi Metallics is seeking a highly experienced and community-connected Senior Manager, Government Relations and Community Relations to be based in or near the Paducah, Kentucky area. This strategic role will serve as the primary interface for Mesabi Metallics with local communities, government officials and other key stakeholders. The position will have a strong focus on building trust, fostering partnerships, and advancing the company’s sustainable industrial initiatives in Kentucky.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of progressive experience in government relations, community affairs, public policy, or external affairs, ideally within mining, steel, manufacturing, energy, or heavy industry sectors.
• Demonstrated success in building community support for strategic projects and initiatives
• Deep knowledge of the political environment of Western Kentucky
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder environments and deliver results in a dynamic, project-driven setting.
• Willingness to travel frequently within Kentucky and to project sites as required.
• Commitment to sustainability, community development, and Mesabi Metallics’ values of integrity and responsible growth.

• Strong local connections in the Paducah area or western Kentucky region are strongly preferred; candidates must have established relationships with community leaders, local officials, and stakeholders.
• advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead all community engagement activities in the Paducah region and surrounding areas, including public outreach, town halls, stakeholder meetings, partnerships with local organizations, schools, nonprofits, workforce development programs, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with communities to ensure broad support for Mesabi Metallics’ Kentucky-based industrial projects.
• Coordinate local advocacy in support of local and state policy and permitting initiatives.
• Develop and implement government relations strategies, including policy monitoring, preparation of advocacy materials, testimony, and direct engagement with elected officials and government departments.
• In coordination with Mesabi Metallics’ Communications team, support external communications, including media relations, crisis communications, and proactive storytelling to highlight the economic, environmental, and community benefits of Essar’s initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams (project development, legal, sustainability, operations) to ensure community and government strategies are fully aligned with business objectives.
• Track engagement outcomes, community sentiment, policy developments, and report regularly to senior leadership.
• Manage community investment and government affairs budgets efficiently and transparently.
