About The Position

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Senior Manager, Field Safety and Health to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site. The Senior Manager, Field Safety and Health manages the Radiological Control Programs for assigned facilities and/or areas along with coordination of other Safety & Health Programs (i.e., Safety & Industrial Hygiene). Formulates and implements policies and practices to ensure the radiological health of employees. Provides management oversight to ensure adherence to DOE, regulatory, and/or company rules and regulations. Maintains programs that will protect the occupational safety and health of employees, the public and the environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related and years of progressive experience in the field.
  • A minimum of four years nuclear experience is required.
  • Manager must stay current on GET and RadWorker Training Phase II or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Manages, directs and integrates the facility's Radiation Protection Program by: coordinating with the Business Unit Safety, Health & QA Manager to establish expectations and ensure communications between S&HO and the facility; resolving technical issues; managing the implementation of program improvements relative to employee performance through Conduct of Operations initiatives; and providing management oversight to ensure that RadCon and facility operations personnel are following the requirements of the Site's Radiological Control (5Q) Manual.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and direction to managers, professionals, and nonexempt personnel. Manages the qualification program of assigned personnel in accordance with program requirements established by the Managers of Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H), Radiological Protection Department, and the applicable Training and Qualification Program Manual.
  • Implements Site and DOE level policies through formulation and implementation of facility-specific plans and procedures: by reviewing radiation protection policies to ensure the facility is in compliance with applicable regulations and that the facility's Radiation Protection Program is adequate to meet stringent external review criteria for startup and operations; meeting with other S&HO Managers and providing advice on policy to establish facility program consistency; and reviewing and assessing procedures and practices for technical accuracy.
  • Responsible for ensuring facilities/area is in full compliance with all Federal, State, Company, and Site requirements to maintain exposure to site personnel and the general public ALARA by: assuming ownership of the facility's Radiation Protection Program to include Operational Readiness Reviews (ORRs), facility startup, occupational radiation exposure and contamination control; conducting management walk-throughs and surveillances of areas of responsibility to monitor and enforce standards; providing input to occurrence reports; and authoring formal responses to audits and surveillance's.
  • Represents the Radiological Protection Department on radiological protection issues externally and internally. Formulates and communicates facility position to various oversight and planning groups.
  • Develops and implements the facility's business planning systems to efficiently utilize resources by coordinating manpower requirements through daily and weekly planning meetings with facility Line Management.
  • Upgrades the quality of the facility's Radiation Protection Program to include monitoring the conduct of training and qualification programs for radiological Control (RC) Inspectors and First Line Managers by: approving OJT qualification; reviewing and approving facility-specific radiological control training materials; participating in Training Review Committees as needed; identifying improvement opportunities; implementing improvement processes (task teams, committees, communications, recognition, etc.); and evaluating the facility's radiological events and communicating lessons learned.
  • Provides management leadership to ensure a safety and total quality culture for the facility by: enforcing monthly safety meeting attendance and good work practices; emphasizing the importance of safety on and off the job; identifying improvement opportunities; and sponsoring improvement processes.
  • Provides management, values, and objectives for the facility by: ensuring compliance with personnel policies; administering various employee Human Resource issues, including concerns, problems, and constructive discipline issues; and providing personnel and professional development support through training and counseling.
