About The Position

About the Team: The Global Risk, Security and Resilience team manages the company's operational risks and advises the business on other commercial, strategic or reputational challenges that may arise. With functions covering audits & investigations, business resilience (incident & crisis management, business continuity), digital risk, event security, global operations & insights, executive safety, health, safety & wellness, high risk & newsroom safety and workplace security, the department covers a diverse technical portfolio leveraged to ensure risks are reasonably managed, security threats addressed and disruptions limited in support of Dow Jones' strategic goals. About the Role Dow Jones produces more than one hundred live events each year, convening global leaders, decision-makers, and influential audiences to explore the most important issues shaping business, policy, and society. These events—ranging from the Wall Street Journal Innovator Awards to global summits and executive gatherings—are central to Dow Jones' brand and reputation for excellence. Based at our headquarters in New York City, the Senior Manager, Events & Investigations is a strategic leader within the Global Risk, Security & Resilience (GRSR) team. Reporting to the Director of Executive Safety & Event Security, you are responsible for shaping and executing a forward-leaning global event safety and security strategy that protects people, assets, and reputation while enabling the business to operate confidently at scale. In addition to driving event safety and security excellence, you will lead and oversees audits and investigative processes related to safety, security, and operational incidents. You will manage a team of security and risk professionals and partner closely with colleagues across Events, commercial, legal, HR, communications, and operations to ensure safety, security, and investigative practices are seamlessly integrated into business operations. Experience building and leveraging a law enforcement or security network is a plus. We ask that you have strategic vision, operational rigor, and a strong ability to influence senior stakeholders in a complex, global environment. This is a hybrid role based in New York, NY, with travel requirements of approximately 30% annually, driven by critical events, on-site security needs, and investigative responsibilities.

Requirements

  • As a highly visible and strategically significant role, we ask that you have deep expertise in event safety and security management within a complex, global organization. You bring both the strategic acumen to influence senior stakeholders and the operational rigor to deliver measurable, high-impact results.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in physical security operations, protective intelligence, or risk management, with demonstrated involvement in event safety.
  • Proven ability to implement and enhance scalable safety and risk controls aligned with security policies and business goals.
  • Experience leading teams and managing operational delivery, including developing talent and ensuring consistent standards across cross-functional partners and vendor services.
  • Strong planning and program governance skills with the ability to set milestones, allocate resources, and monitor performance across multiple simultaneous activities
  • Demonstrated competence using intelligence-supported, data-driven insights to identify threats and inform proactive security measures that align to risk appetite and enterprise context
  • Clear and compelling written and verbal communication, enabling effective briefs and coordination with senior stakeholders and non-specialist audiences
  • Experience with vendor oversight, including quality management and adherence to contractual and risk standards
  • Collaborative understanding of physical-digital risk convergence and ability to partner with cybersecurity and IT risk teams to ensure alignment.

Nice To Haves

  • Past experience leading an event safety or security practice in an organization with a similarly visible brand identity and event schedule.
  • Formal training in de-escalation, personal defense, and crowd management tactics delivered by a qualified institution or recognized public safety organization.
  • Relevant professional credentials such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or Certified Crowd Manager (CCM).
  • Experience implementing or managing risk technology platforms and analytics tools.
  • Training in de-escalation and defense techniques by a qualified entity.
  • Experience working overseas and in different cultures.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours or weekends when required to support live events or emergent incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a world-class event safety and security framework that integrates data-driven insights, intelligence, and technology to proactively manage risks and protect people, assets, and reputation.
  • Align event safety and investigative practices with enterprise risk objectives, ensuring the program directly supports strategic and commercial goals.
  • Leverage modern technology platforms, data analytics, and digital monitoring tools to inform event risk planning, intelligence collection, and incident response effectiveness.
  • Manage a team of professionals and contractors, fostering a culture of operational excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous professional development.
  • Lead sourcing, procurement, and management of third-party security providers.
  • Establish governance, quality controls, and operational standards that drive efficiency and accountability.
  • Align event safety and investigative practices with enterprise risk objectives by creating and maintaining comprehensive policies, playbooks, and training programs that strengthen preparedness, situational awareness, and incident response across event teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders including event production, editorial, legal, HR, and executive leadership. Ensure communication is clear, actionable, and aligned with business priorities.
  • Support business resilience through effective incident and crisis management.
  • Attend professional events and courses to stay abreast of new solutions—and especially technologies—relevant to safely delivering the company's event strategy.
