About The Position

AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (“AvalonBay” or the “Company”) has engaged Major, Lindsey & Africa on an exclusive basis to conduct a search for a Senior Manager, Employment and Litigation Counsel. Company: AvalonBay Communities, Inc., a member of the S&P 500, is an equity REIT that develops, redevelops, acquires and manages apartment communities in leading metropolitan areas in New England, the New York/New Jersey Metro area, the Mid-Atlantic, the Pacific Northwest, and Northern and Southern California, as well as in the Company's expansion regions of Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, North Carolina, Southeast Florida, Dallas and Austin, Texas, and Denver, Colorado. As of September 30, 2025, the Company owned or held a direct or indirect ownership interest in 314 apartment communities containing 97,219 apartment homes in 11 states and the District of Columbia, of which 21 communities were under development. Overview: The Senior Manager, Employment and Litigation Counsel primarily provides support to the Senior Director, Litigation and Operations Counsel and SVP & Associate General Counsel and serves as a key resource for human resources and various operating groups throughout the Company. This attorney will manage the day-to-day aspects of administrative charges and litigation matters, and provide practical employment law counseling to business partners across the organization. This attorney will interact with associates of all levels throughout the Company.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of employment law and litigation experience at a reputable law firm and/or corporate in-house legal department.
  • Willingness to grow and expand one's area of expertise beyond employment law and manage non-employment litigation, including but not limited to fair housing or other tenant lawsuits or administrative complaints, commercial litigation, or construction litigation.
