About The Position

As a Senior Manager of Data Science on Walmart’s Performance Management team, you will lead high-impact initiatives that shape how we measure and optimize our Last Mile Delivery (LMD) operation. You will act as a technical and strategic leader — building a governed, AI-ready Data Foundation, driving adoption of advanced analytics and machine learning, and ensuring consistent, validated metrics across the enterprise. Your work will directly enable Walmart to deliver faster, more efficient, and more reliable experiences for customers, drivers, and associates. What you'll do... Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Data Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 6–8 years of experience in data science, advanced analytics, or logistics optimization.
  • Proven ability to deliver measurable business impact through analytics and machine learning at scale.
  • Proficiency in programming and data tools (Python, SQL, R, Spark, etc.) and strong modeling/optimization skills.
  • Strong business acumen with experience linking data science outputs to operational KPIs.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in supply chain, fulfillment, or retail performance measurement is a plus
  • Data science, machine learning, optimization models, PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics
  • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R
  • Supervisory experience
  • Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch)

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end data science initiatives that define, monitor, and optimize performance for Walmart’s LMD operations.
  • Build and maintain a One Source of Truth for LMD performance data, ensuring metric governance, lineage, and validation.
  • Partner with data stewards and engineers to make datasets AI-ready and consistently consumable across dashboards, models, and agentic AI systems.
  • Lead the strategy and deployment of machine learning models to improve delivery efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer & driver experiences.
  • Analyze large-scale logistics and delivery datasets to generate actionable insights for Performance Management and strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with Ops, Finance, Product, and Tech teams to translate business priorities into effective data science solutions.
  • Influence stakeholders across functions, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and aligned with Walmart’s KPIs.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both executive and technical stakeholders.
  • Define and champion best practices in metric governance, experimentation, and model evaluation.

  • The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
