About The Position

This position can be based in Dallas or Houston. The Senior Manager, Community Relations is an organized, detail driven individual with an interest in local community engagement, eager to join a highly respected team of experienced professionals serving one of the largest companies in the world. Walmart’s Community Relations team is responsible for driving local engagement with stores, customers and community leaders with the goal of elevating our brand reputation and increasing meaningful connections that will continue to provide added value to the business. The Senior Manager will see up close how the CR team conducts in-store activations that empower stores and clubs to increase and enhance community relationships through training; toolkits; newsletters; and event support. Additionally, the Senior Manager will have the opportunity to conduct regular training of Community Champions in urban, suburban and rural markets that empowers store associates to engage locally through a structured decision-making framework with resources and inspiration; cultivate relationships with local government officials and community leaders; identify local store opportunities for volunteerism and random acts of kindness; support social media training and outreach; and foster self-sufficiency on our overall approach to community engagement. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, Technical Writing, Graphic Design, Liberal Arts, Fine Arts, or related field and 4 years' experience in corporate communication, public relations, journalism, executive communication, technical writing, graphic design, or related field OR 6 years' experience in corporate communication, public relations, journalism, executive communication, technical writing, graphic design, or related field.
  • You’re a great all-around communicator (written, oral, visual, social media).
  • You have previous experience training, teaching or leading small / large groups.
  • You have a lifelong learning mindset.
  • You’re a self-starter who is productive when working independently or on a team.
  • A valid driver’s license with the ability to travel domestically 60–75% of the time, including consecutive overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Implement an engagement strategy to strengthen local relationships and further enhance Walmart's reputation in US communities by developing and executing community outreach plans.
  • Train stores to engage in community activities thoughtfully, with a multi-functional team approach based on prioritized business needs and in compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
  • Oversee the execution of local giving budgets by collaborating with department leadership to ensure goals and programs are aligned with corporate strategy; and provide recommendations for future budget allocation at the local/regional level.
  • Localize and extend the impact of Walmart national business efforts including: Belonging; Health and Wellness; Opportunity; Sustainability; and Local Sourcing.
  • Advise on local strategies for responding to community-related opportunities and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent communication regarding presence in the community.
