Senior Manager, Civil Engineering Delivery team is currently organized in four key areas including Venue Infrastructure, Venue Management, Revenue & Commercial, and Games Operations, but will expand to over 30 functional areas by Games time. The Venue Infrastructure team is responsible for delivering the competition and non-competition venues fit-for-purpose for the preparation and staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This department is responsible for managing the design, development, program management, construction, maintenance, and removal of all Games infrastructure in existing and fully temporary venues. Reporting to the Director, Engineering, the Senior Manager, Civil Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the civil engineering works for the temporary infrastructure and integration of permanent infrastructure, including management of external engineering resources and internal engineering teams; informing procurement related to civil engineering works; and managing installation, maintenance, and reinstatement during operations. This role will require extensive knowledge of the development of technical deliverables including drawings, specifications, and procurement documents. To support venue development efforts, this role is required to coordinate with multiple internal functional areas to ensure feedback is captured and designs meet industry codes and standards, IOC requirements, and cost and schedule targets. LA28 will make extensive use of existing venues as well as build temporary venues, requiring varying application of engineering principles.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of civil or equivalent engineering experience with large infrastructure design and construction
  • Experience with temporary infrastructure and overlay, or equivalent experience with major infrastructure capital programs. Preferred experience with local or major sporting events (Olympics & Paralympic Games, World Cup, etc.)
  • Experience leading diverse teams delivering complex, high-profile infrastructure projects
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering and collaboration tools and software (Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented with excellent command of productivity and collaboration tools (Office360, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Autodesk Cloud, etc.)
  • Experience with key of industry codes and practices
  • Knowledge of key civil works construction activities, including site preparation, grading, and remediation
  • Knowledge with fundamental project management concepts (scope, schedule, budget)
  • Demonstrated commitment to co-creation and collaborative decision-making
  • Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office
  • The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.
  • The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment
  • Site visits requiring movement around varying environmental conditions in external locations

  • Required – Accredited Bachelors in Civil Engineering or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Lead civil engineering technical design and development, including oversight of temporary infrastructure and overlay designs, including space allocations, grading, pathways, etc.
  • Develop technical engineering design guides and principles and adapt IOC requirements to local practices
  • Prepare and support other engineering analysis as needed to support development works, including site surveys, crowd modeling, area feasibility studies, etc.
  • Prepare and oversee the civil engineering portion of the venue design books and technical publications. Advance engineering designs through increasing levels of detail for construction drawings
  • Manage internal team and oversee external resources to deliver on workstream responsibilities
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders’ requirements to develop cost effective and streamlined solutions to meet games time requirements for each venue
  • Manage and develop review process for plans to meet departmental milestones
  • Integrate and influence venue design to allow for efficient engineering solutions
  • Support the development of integrated workplans and schedules with the infrastructure master schedule, event operations planning, and central Program Management
  • Oversee an installation team during operations and maintenance during the event period
  • Represent LA28 and the VNI Engineering team in meetings and at events with stakeholders
  • Support infrastructure requirements for Broadcast, Energy, Technology, and Look and Sign, amongst other stakeholders
  • Support the development of integrated workplans and schedules with the infrastructure master schedule, event operations planning, and central Program Management.
  • Partner with Finance and Procurement teams to prepare costs, elevate delivery and procurement risks, and identify savings opportunities.
  • Support other cross-functional initiatives, including Permitting, Risk Management, and Event Operations.
  • Ensure compliance within workstream to Health & Safety regulations.
