About The Position

The Senior Manager in Business Solutions & Reporting for Payroll is a critical role within Bristol Myers Squibb's Global Process Ownership (GPO) team, ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and optimization of payroll processing and reporting across all regions. This role oversees the monitoring in governance of payroll operations, supports system and process improvements, and serves as a key escalation point for technical and compliance issues. The Senior Manager will bridge payroll outputs with finance and accounting, support audit and regulatory requirements, and drive data-driven decision-making through advanced analytics and reporting. The position requires strong cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and a commitment to continuous process improvement in a dynamic, global environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (required).
  • 5+ years of proven relevant work experience in payroll processing, payroll accounting, process redesign and change management
  • Advanced proficiency in payroll and HCM systems (Workday, SAP, ADP GlobalView, ADP Celergo).
  • Strong knowledge of payroll reporting tools and business intelligence platforms (SpinifexIT experience is a plus).
  • Familiarity with statutory payroll and compliance requirements (SOC1/2, GDPR, SOX).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze complex payroll data, with advanced quantitative and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in developing and automating accrual, reconciliation, and variance reporting models.
  • High attention to detail and logical thinking in financial and payroll data management.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage competing priorities, and deliver quality results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skilled in process improvement methodologies and project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present payroll insights to executives and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience managing stakeholder expectations within a matrixed global organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly and year-end payroll summary processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Establish and maintain real-time global dashboards to track payroll KPIs, cycle trends, and incident root causes.
  • Establish & support regular audits of payroll data, identifying and resolving discrepancies and ensuring robust issue management.
  • Support internal and external audits by producing compliance metrics and statutory filings.
  • Oversee payroll-to-general ledger (GL) reconciliation, validating account balances, wage code mappings, and suspense clearing.
  • Automate accrual models and analyze variances for payroll outputs, fringe rates, and employer cost ratios.
  • Ensure gross-to-net integrity, monitoring deltas across payroll systems (Workday, ADP, SAP).
  • Evaluate regional and vendor performance against SLAs and KPIs, including cycle time, cost per payslip, and error rates.
  • Monitor statutory filing timeliness and labor cost benchmarking across countries and entities.
  • Drive exception root-cause analysis, process improvements, and predictive analytics to identify automation and optimization opportunities.
  • Quantify and track ROI for digital tool adoption, process improvements, and vendor transitions.
  • Maintain a focus on continuous improvement to enhance payroll accounting processes and minimize inefficiencies.
  • Prepare quarterly payroll health and compliance reports for executive leadership, consolidating audit readiness and transformation milestones.
  • Develop risk heatmaps and control scorecards for payroll compliance, vendor stability, and data quality.
  • Steward payroll data dictionaries and metadata for standardized analytics.
  • Monitor integration data quality between upstream and downstream payroll systems and automation pipelines.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for internal customers, including ad hoc requests for Corporate Tax, Finance, and Risk.
  • Serve as a primary escalation and liaison point for payroll-related queries, collaborating across Accounting, Finance, HR, and Payroll vendors.
  • Develop long-term relationships with stakeholders to support process transparency and address operational challenges.
  • Support documentation management for payroll processes to ensure compliance and accessibility.
