About The Position

Total Wine & More is seeking a Senior Manager, Beer to join our Merchandising team in Bethesda, MD. In this role, you will oversee buying and category management for the beer business, leading a team responsible for developing best-in-class assortments that drive sales and margin growth across our stores. You will manage supplier relationships, negotiate costs, and collaborate cross-functionally to execute programs that enhance the customer shopping experience and deliver against business objectives. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced beer merchandising leader to shape the future of the beer category through strategic sourcing, data-driven decision making, and operational excellence. You will report to the Director, Beer & Hard Beverage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field preferred or equivalent years of experience.
  • 7-10 years experience in buying, merchandising, or vendor management, with alcohol beverage industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to deliver financial results through category management and supplier negotiation.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret sales and margin data to drive strategic decisions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator with ability to build relationships and influence cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of PowerBI or Looker preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of beer buyers, fostering a high-performance culture that drives results and aligns with Total Wine & More’s values.
  • Own and drive P&L performance for the beer category, managing a $500M+ business to achieve sales, gross margin, and profitability targets.
  • Develop and execute category strategies for American, Import, Craft, and non-alcoholic beers, leveraging analytics to drive sales growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage supplier relationships, negotiating costs, resolving issues, and partnering to develop secondary merchandising opportunities that drive incremental sales.
  • Identify market trends and new product opportunities, making strategic assortment decisions to maintain category leadership and capitalize on customer preferences.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Marketing, Promotions, and Store Operations to implement impactful programs and seasonal programs that enhance the shopping experience.
  • Drive in-store programming and educational initiatives to support store teams in delivering exceptional customer experience.
  • Oversee assortment performance reviews, optimizing SKU mix and planning assortments for new stores and markets.
