About The Position

The Senior Manager for Accounting & Financial Controls at Columbia University's College of Dental Medicine is a critical role focused on enhancing financial reporting and operational efficiency. This position involves supporting management reporting, overseeing the financial closing process, and ensuring the integrity of financial statements and budgets. The role requires collaboration across various departments to analyze financial activities and implement internal controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience plus four years of related experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in active status.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably including some public accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel; experience with Peoplesoft or similar ERP system is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and people skills. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree MBA.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare accounting.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with healthcare billing with Medicaid, Private Insurance and Managed Care providers is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Columbia University Accounting System (ARC).

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily accounting operations of the school and the monthly close, including preparation of closing schedules and variance analyses.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement analysis according to GAAP; analyze differences between actuals and budget and present findings and recommendations to the Executive team.
  • Prepare patient care revenue analysis by payor.
  • Assist with the annual financial statement audit and cost report through direct interaction with external auditors throughout the audit process.
  • Liaise with the University central accounting team for preparation of the annual 990 statement for Article 28 teaching clinic.
  • Provide analyses to identify issues and understand fluctuations in balances to help maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the school's financial reporting.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
