Role and Responsibilities Samsung Electronics America (SEA) is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, 4G/5G RAN Air Interface Senior Systems Engineer to join our Wireless network team. The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for product & feature performance analysis, evaluation of new product & SW releases. The incumbent should understand 5G RAN features and come up with a strategy to enable features to maximize performance and user experience. Responsible for identifying opportunities to further improve products through new features, defining feature requirements and working with R&D to finalize the solution. Verify the performance and functionality of the 5G air interface in commercial network. Analyze UE logs and gNB logs corresponding to a 5G air interface feature under study and produce test reports showing the intended target gain if applicable. Responsible for hands on analysis of network performance issues (i.e., air interface, call processing, etc.) and creating solutions to meet network optimization expectations. Perform detailed analysis of 4G/5G Wireless Call Protocols. Responsible for analyzing and troubleshooting the issues Educate our customers on Samsung’s new products and services both individually and in a team environment. Ensures that customer commitments are achieved according to plan. Works closely with various support organizations, logistics, and cross- functional teams from SEA and Samsung HQ to achieve successful new product roll-outs and developments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering; Advanced degree is a plus
  • 10+ years’ work experience in the wireless industry
  • Must have understanding on 5G concepts such as Hybrid Beamforming, Massive MIMO, New Waveforms, LTE-NR interworking & co-existence, 5G Numerologies etc
  • Experience with system engineering activities such as feature requirements identification, feature description documentation, parameter optimization, performance analysis, test strategy creation, problem troubleshooting is desirable
  • Strong knowledge in 5G and 4G air interface and call processing technologies and network architecture specifically focused on Radio Access Network
  • Good understanding of overall Wireless systems with emphasis on PHY, MAC, RLC, RRC and PDCP layers
  • Experience with protocol analyzers, creating Tableau reports, test tools such as XCAL, QXDM and Wireshark
  • Understanding of Channel Emulators, Spectrum Analyzers, and Signal Generators
  • Understanding of 3GPP systems: Core and RAN networks
  • Understanding of HW as well as SW architecture
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills: To work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills: To troubleshoot network issues and optimize performance
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ongoing 3GPP Rel-18/19 activities is beneficial
  • Experience with SW development is beneficial
  • Experience with wireless infrastructure provider and/or operator is desired
