About The Position

The Facilities Senior Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and overall excellence of the physical environment at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. This position is responsible for the hands-on, day-to-day maintenance, repair, and operational integrity of all buildings, grounds, swimming pool and utility systems within the facility. Maintaining all structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related infrastructure systems, the Facilities Senior Maintenance Technician ensures that the Center remains fully operational, safe, and welcoming for members, guests, and staff. In addition to performing advanced maintenance and repair functions, this role serves as a technical mentor and trainer, providing guidance and instruction to subordinate staff on the proper use of tools, machinery, and equipment. The Facilities Senior Maintenance Technician leads by example, teaching best practices for installation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of facility components and systems to promote efficiency, safety, and long-term asset preservation. This position requires strong technical expertise, proactive problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of facility operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of hands-on progressive experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a similar building facility, such as a college, health facility, school facility, community center or resort.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance, and construction techniques, as well as the tools, methods, materials, equipment, and industry best practices used across construction and mechanical trades.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, environmental rules and all other rules and regulations governing repair, maintenance and construction of facilities specifically with heating and cooling systems, sewer, plumbing, electrical, water, landscape, irrigation systems, swimming pool filtration systems, condensers, and de-humidifiers.
  • Journey-level work in a variety of trades, read and maintain schematics and blueprints related to the facilities, sketch and review technical drawings to estimate repair and construction projects.
  • Practice prudent fiscal responsibility related to property upkeep.
  • Read, write and communicate in English with proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License and insured transportation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, on-line HVAC mechanical systems, electrical control systems, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis. Submit a copy of DMV Driving Record with less than two (2) violations (moving or accident) in last twelve (12) months to be eligible for this position.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certificate. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
  • The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of hands-on experience working with HVAC systems.
  • Five years of hands-on experience working with commercial pool filtration systems.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Make informed technical decisions across a broad range of skilled trades.
  • Monitor and manage the work order system to ensure timely completion of outstanding projects.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assist management in evaluating whether projects should be completed in-house or outsourced.
  • Provide technical guidance to management regarding the maintenance, repair, renovation, or replacement of equipment and facilities.
  • Advise staff on proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
  • Maintain and repair high-voltage electrical systems, HVAC systems, and pool filtration systems.
  • Inspect and monitor all buildings and grounds, including the aquatics center, swimming pools, outdoor recreation areas, gymnasium, worship and performing arts center, education center, fitness center, child watch, early childhood education center, dormitory, parking lots, and landscaped areas, and identify needed repairs or special projects related to plumbing, electrical, windows, or structural components.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all electrical, security, communication, and ventilation systems throughout the facility.
  • Serve as a primary responder for fire alarm activations, chemical spills, and hazardous materials incidents.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a year-round preventative maintenance plan.
  • Promote and maintain a high level of operational efficiency throughout the facility.
  • Meet regularly with management to help establish maintenance priorities and provide recommendations for repairs, remodeling, and equipment replacement.
  • Support the training of maintenance staff in the proper use of equipment, tools, and cleaning supplies.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of vehicles and motor-driven equipment.
  • Perform quality control inspections on work completed by maintenance staff and external contractors.
  • Help develop and maintain safeguards to protect facilities, grounds, equipment, and supplies.
  • Conduct daily inspections for graffiti or vandalism on buildings and property, including multipurpose fields, bus stops, fences, and light poles. Document incidents with written reports and photographs as needed, report serious vandalism to the Police Department, and ensure prompt repair after documentation.
  • Maintain a safe environment for members, guests, and employees; report all facility-related concerns to management promptly.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics Manager to maintain pool filtration systems and ensure compliance with health codes and regulations.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate records, including repair logs and required reports.
  • Provide logistical and staffing support to various departments during special events, including events held during evenings and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
