About The Position

This position works under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and the general direction of the Sector Maintenance Chief. The reporting location is Sugar Pine State Park Maintenance Shop. Other locations the incumbent will work are the D.L. Bliss SP and Emerald Bay SP. Senior Maintenance Aides are responsible for housekeeping, keeping grounds neat and orderly, and performing minor maintenance tasks to buildings, grounds, structures, and other facilities within the unit under the direction of permanent Park Maintenance personnel. Maintenance Aides perform light painting alongside permanent State Park employees as well as minor wood repair, paint prep, and cleanup of paint site and equipment. Maintenance Aides will maintain basic records and follow established maintenance standards. Incumbent must be prepared to work safely outdoors in any weather conditions. Applicants must possess the ability to read, write and speak English at a level required for successful job performance, demonstrate the ability to follow directions, compute simple mathematical calculations, establish work procedures, follow park rules and regulations, perform various manual tasks, interact successfully with the public, address concerns in a positive manner, and possess the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with park staff and volunteers. Training is provided. Senior Maintenance Aides are often the first person the public encounters when entering a State Park. You must be prepared to represent State Parks in a positive way. Applicants must be willing to purchase and wear a uniform and conform to grooming standards. This is a great way to start a career with State Parks. Applicants must be willing to workday shift or swing shift, weekends, and holidays. A 30-40-hour work week is normal. This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible. The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving. State housing may be required. Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements.
