About The Position

We’re looking for a Senior 5-Axis Machinist who can own complex jobs from print to part: programming, setup, prove-out, and production, while maintaining tight tolerances and excellent finishes. You’ll primarily run a Hermle C-400 (Heidenhain control) and support additional equipment including a Hyundai WIA HD 3100SY mill/turn and a Fanuc Robodrill. This is a hands-on role in a high-mix, low-volume environment where quality, process discipline, and problem-solving matter.

Requirements

  • Proven CNC machining experience with strong capability in 5-axis setup and operation (Hermle experience is a big plus).
  • Fusion 360 CAM proficiency (able to program, post, and adjust toolpaths; comfortable with prove-out and iteration on the floor).
  • Experience with Heidenhain controls (or strong ability to ramp quickly).
  • Solid mill/turn experience preferred—especially with live tooling and sub-spindle work (Hyundai WIA HD 3100SY or similar).
  • Familiarity with Fanuc controls, ideally including Fanuc i-Series and Fanuc 31i platforms (Robodrill experience is a plus).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret prints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Deep understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, workholding, and material behavior.
  • Skilled in precision measurement and inspection; high attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Able to work independently, communicate clearly, and collaborate in a fast-moving team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain a Hermle C-400 5-axis machining center (Heidenhain control) to produce high-quality parts.
  • Program and edit toolpaths in Fusion 360 and Esprit Edge, including 3+2 and full 5-axis strategies as needed.
  • Set up and run a Hyundai WIA HD 3100SY (live tooling, 6" sub-spindle, Fanuc i-Series) for mill/turn work, part transfers, and process optimization.
  • Set up and operate a Fanuc Robodrill (Fanuc Series 31i-Model B5) for production and support work.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, models, and route sheets to execute precise machining tasks.
  • Select tooling and work holding; set offsets; dial in feeds/speeds to optimize cycle time, tool life, and part accuracy.
  • Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot machining and process issues (chatter, tool wear, runout, alarms, dimensional drift) and implement corrective actions.
  • Document setups and best practices (tool lists, work offsets, inspection notes) to support repeatability and team success.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production to improve manufacturability, reduce scrap, and strengthen process capability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow all safety standards and shop protocols.
  • Support and mentor other machinists as needed to hit schedule and quality targets.
