About The Position

As a Machine Learning Scientist, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside industry experts researching, developing and ing cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms. You'll help us build innovative technologies, services and products that solve complex problems and accelerate Best Buy's core growth. In this role you will combine your software engineering skills and knowledge of ML and AI algorithms to contribute to a team developing and operationalizing models, algorithms, and production quality codebases. These technologies form the core engines that unleash the next generation of customer experiences and transform the way Best Buy operates day-to-day. This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work some days on-site at the Best Buy location listed on this posting and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research or related) or equivalent experience
  • Strong machine learning and algorithmic background with a deep understanding of at least one of the following areas: supervised and unsupervised learning methods, reinforcement learning, deep learning and generative AI
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to a wide spectrum of cross-functional team members
  • 4 years of experience in designing and implementing ML driven solutions
  • 4 years of coding experience with Python
  • 4 years of experience with massaging, cleaning, and standardizing tabular and free form text data to feed into an ML model
  • 2 years of experience in using deep learning frameworks and generative AI models in areas

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, Operations Research or related)
  • Experience building & deploying ML products over GCP and/or AWS
  • Experience building applications such as search and recommendations using tools like TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, MXNet or ONNX
  • Open-source contributions or robust GitHub portfolio
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art sequence to sequence models; experience with transformer-based architecture
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and contribute to the team roadmap with the goal of increasing adoption of ML in the enterprise

  • Using software engineering skills to develop and deploy solutions that can scale to millions of requests per second with millisecond latency
  • Utilizing broad and deep knowledge of machine learning and software engineering to contribute to the roadmap of Best Buy's core machine learning capabilities
  • Building real products that influence and enhance the lives of millions of people and drive and deliver tens of millions of dollars in impact to Best Buy's bottom line
