About The Position

We grow the world’s BEST Strawberries and that wouldn’t be possible without our incredible engineers! Reporting into the Director of Machine Learning, our Senior Machine Learning Engineer leads some of the most cutting-edge engineering work Oishii has to offer through deep technical expertise and hands-on execution. We are developing advanced farm systems that leverage robotic harvesting, artificial intelligence, forecasting, and automation technologies to grow and harvest the world’s best strawberries. We are studying every aspect of strawberry production and finding ways to beat the status quo. On the plant science front, we are creating smarter farms that can automatically harvest fruit, measure and analyze plant health, monitor environmental conditions, fine-tune nutrient levels, understand and control the micro-organism ecosystems, and much more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Analytical Sciences (biology, ecology, etc.), Statistics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or applied engineering roles, with demonstrated technical leadership on complex systems.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
  • Strong experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or ONNX.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with large-scale data systems.
  • Deep understanding of core machine learning, statistics, and computer science principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the delivery of impactful machine learning solutions independently and in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in full-stack engineering with AWS or cloud-based ML infrastructures.
  • Ability to quickly shift priorities to meet deadlines and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, clearly, concisely and with purpose with technical and non technical business partners.
  • Ability to work cross functionally at all levels and collaborate at various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to remove obstacles in order to prioritize which could include problem solving, working through ambiguity and using fact based or sound judgment.
  • Capable of prioritizing tasks and always considering the resources available when doing so.
  • Track record of delivering engineering solutions on time, on budget, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • A bias for action! Ability to hold yourself accountable and take ownership of driving results that impact company outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Take point on creating and evaluating machine learning systems with a specific focus on harvesting automation edge models and plant yield forecasting.
  • Deliver high-impact data products by developing creative, scalable solutions that leverage our extensive data lake and automated data collection capabilities.
  • Design, build, and productionize machine learning models and infrastructure (e.g. computer vision models, statistical models, NLP systems) that scale the business and enhance farm operations and user experiences.
  • Partner closely with engineering, product, and science teams to gather and understand requirements, translating objectives into production-grade analytical models and algorithms.
  • Perform deep analysis on existing datasets and identify opportunities to introduce new datasets through automated collection to unlock advanced analytics use cases.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to access and understand data sources, improve data ingestion pipelines, and ensure data quality and reliability.
  • Design and implement repeatable testing and evaluation strategies to measure model performance and business impact.
  • Own end-to-end machine learning workflows, including exploratory data analysis, model development, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
