Michigan Millers is seeking a Loss Control Consultant III to join our team in Rochester or Buffalo, New York! This position is responsible for completing loss control surveys and assessments for primarily medium-to-large accounts (typically up to $399,000, with some accounts exceeding $400,000 based on manager assignment), as well as reporting information and opinions regarding risks and exposures.

Requirements

  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Analytical with ability to exercise sound risk evaluation judgment.

  • Continuing education currently possessing one or more of the following certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Chartered Property Casuality Underwriter (CPCU).

Responsibilities

  • Builds and maintains strong underwriter and agency relationships.
  • Effectively manages loss control assignments to achieve risk improvement and continuing account service with focus on reducing line of business loss trends and improving safety programs.
  • Uses established loss control practices, processes, and procedures to analyze the operations and exposures of different types of risks.
  • Assesses risk attitude for addressing uncontrolled exposures on new and existing business.
  • Identifies risk improvement opportunities through recommendations and safety program improvements to maximize assigned continuous account loss ratio.
  • Consistently manages high risk / hazard business and / or large accounts.
  • Applies intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of recognized codes and standards (OSHA, NFPA, DOT) with the ability to articulate to others in loss control survey work.
  • Objectively evaluates line of business by completion of loss control tools, including Management Evaluation Tool and Transitional Return to Work Tool for Workers’ Compensation and Fleet Safety Best Practice Matrix for Commercial Auto.
  • Develops presentation materials and presents them in front of a group that consists of external customers (policyholders, agents) and internal customers (underwriting, claims, leadership, loss control peers, etc.).
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
