As a Senior Linux Systems Administrator, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of supporting the CITS contract for USCENTCOM. You will play a crucial role in management, maintenance, and optimization of Linux-based servers in a complex enterprise environment with over 5,000 users, 1,000 servers, and 10,000 endpoints. Oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers, virtual machines, and networking devices. Play a key role in troubleshooting server performance, ensuring security compliance, and addressing system availability issues. Collaborate with other IT teams to implement infrastructure solutions that meet operational requirements and contribute to the overall efficiency and security of the organization's systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Applicable DoD 8140 or DoD 8570 Certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing and troubleshooting Red Hat / CentOS Linux servers.
  • Proven experience in systems administration and infrastructure management.
  • Ability to review, modify, and prepare comprehensive documentation for systems administration tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or higher.
  • ITIL 4 Foundation Certification.
  • Familiarity with USCENTCOM operational data systems, networks, and mission requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers, virtual machines, and networking devices.
  • Troubleshoot server performance, ensuring security compliance, and addressing system availability issues.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to implement infrastructure solutions that meet operational requirements.
  • Play a key role in managing and maintaining Linux server environments.
  • Configure and manage Linux services such as Apache, Nginx, DNS, DHCP, and LDAP.
  • Ensure the proper functioning and security of web servers, including SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
  • Tune system performance, ensuring uptime, and maintain detailed system documentation.
  • Implement critical system patches and updates across Linux environments.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex systems issues.
  • Develop and enforce system policies to optimize performance and security.
  • Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments of Linux-based infrastructure.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior administrators and team members.
  • Review and prepare system documentation, process guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Support projects aimed at improving the security, efficiency, or capability of the Linux environment.
  • Produce data sets and reports to inform management of system performance and process improvements.
