About The Position

Torch Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Linux Administrator to join our team providing advice and assistance in support of Computational Modeling and information technology programs ensuring effective, timely and optimal operation of Information Systems that support the R&D mission of AFRL/RW. The support may be performed along with Government Civilian and military counterparts. Support will be provided to all offices and remote facilities that RW operates in. These systems include unclassified, classified and non-networked (standalone) systems using UNIX/LINUX/Windows/Mac -based systems, and specialized RDT&E enclaves and may be operated on a network or in a stand-alone environment, to include Scientific Workstations, Parallel Computing Environments, and high-end Computational Computing Environments. This role is responsible for the administration, sustainment, and optimization of enterprise Linux platforms across unclassified, collateral, and SAP enclaves. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical expert with extensive experience in administering Linux in classified DoW environments. You will ensure platform stability, security compliance, and performance while supporting scientists, engineers, and operational stakeholders in delivering next-generation warfighter capabilities. This position is located onsite at Eglin AFB, FL.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field. 4 years’ additional experience in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of Linux system administration experience, ideally supporting DoW or Air Force research environments.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliant (Security+ required; RHCSA/RHCE preferred).
  • Senior-level experience administering Linux systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Bash and/or Python scripting.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Working knowledge of RMF processes, STIG implementation, and enclave compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization and container platforms.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on system installations as needed.
  • Active Secret clearance required at hire.
  • Eligible for SAP access; willingness to complete CI polygraph if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.
  • 10 years of Linux system administration experience desired.
  • RHCSA/RHCE certifications preferred.
  • Experience with VMWare and/or Kubernetes preferred.
  • Active TS/SCI and SAP eligibility preferred

Responsibilities

  • Linux System Administration & Operations Administer, maintain, and optimize Linux systems supporting mission applications, laboratory environments, and operational platforms.
  • Lead day-to-day operations of Linux infrastructure including patching, user management, system monitoring, and incident response.
  • Perform system hardening in accordance with DISA STIGs and Air Force security standards.
  • Provide Tier III/IV support for complex system issues and root cause analysis.
  • Support virtualization and container platforms including VMWare, KVM, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Manage storage integrations (SAN/NAS/object storage) and support data-intensive and HPC workloads as required.
  • Coordinate with network, cybersecurity, and facilities teams to ensure reliable infrastructure operations.
  • Participate in hardware installs, upgrades, and lifecycle replacement activities.
  • Develop and maintain automation using Ansible, Terraform, and Bash/Python scripting to improve system reliability and deployment efficiency.
  • Support Infrastructure as Code practices and standardized configuration baselines.
  • Assist with CI/CD pipeline integration for Linux-based platforms.
  • Maintain system compliance with RMF requirements, DISA STIGs, and NIST 800-series controls.
  • Support ATO package development, continuous monitoring, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Implement logging, auditing, access controls, and backup strategies across environments.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, system documentation, and architecture diagrams using tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, and Confluence.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for Linux operations.
  • Mentor junior administrators and provide operational best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, cybersecurity staff, and program leadership to ensure mission success.
