About The Position

The Senior Library Specialist at the Benson Latin American Collection within the UT Libraries plays a crucial role in supporting the special collections unit. This position is responsible for managing stacks, supervising student assistants, and overseeing the registration of new collections. The specialist will ensure that materials are readily available to researchers in the Rare Books Reading Room and will manage various administrative tasks related to collection management. This includes accessioning new collections, coordinating exhibition loans, and maintaining accurate documentation of all processes. The role also involves engaging with the public and providing support in the Rare Books Reading Room, ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors. In addition to stacks management, the Senior Library Specialist will be tasked with the initial accessioning of incoming collections, which involves working closely with the Development team to process deeds of gift, creating preliminary finding aids, rehousing collections, and updating inventory lists. The specialist will act as the registrar for exhibition loan requests, coordinating condition reports and managing loan documentation. Administrative responsibilities include scheduling student and professional staff for reference shifts, recruiting students, managing the student wages budget, and ordering necessary archival and office materials. The role also requires participation in relevant committees and task forces, contributing to the overall mission of the UT Libraries. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to excellent customer service.
