About The Position

The City of Ontario has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated Senior Librarian to administer programming, archival processing, special collections care, outreach and specialized reference for customers in addition to supervision of paraprofessional staff. The Senior Librarian for Local History oversees the daily operations of the Robert E. Ellingwood Model Colony History Room. The Senior Librarian for Local History will be expected to establish and maintain good relationships with other library units, city agencies, school districts, and community groups. Other responsibilities for this position are soliciting donations from the public; coordinating the acquisition of collections and local history related materials; partnering with organizations and individuals to participate in outreach activities and coordinating local history related programming; arrange, describe and rehouse archival collections; manage digitization projects; overseeing team activities including developing workflows and procedures, training, setting goals and timelines, and evaluating outcomes. The ideal candidate takes initiative, is highly organized, enjoys being part of a team, has excellent communication and writing skills, possesses leadership skills and follows and anticipates current library and archival trends. Additionally, the successful candidate will embody the Ontario City Library's Mission, Vision and Values as well as the qualities of a 'Five Tool Player' - Leader, Thinker, Communicator, Operator and Public Servant - and the values of the City's Approach to Public Service - Commitment to the Community, Excellence through Teamwork, and Doing the Right Thing the Right Way.
