About The Position

We are seeking a Senior-Level Database Administrator (DBA) to support mission and business-critical systems by designing, maintaining, and securing enterprise databases. In this role, you’ll apply deep technical expertise to ensure data availability, performance, integrity, and security—while mentoring junior staff and supporting database projects across the organization. This position is ideal for a seasoned DBA who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem-solving at scale, and supporting high-impact missions. As a Senior DBA, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of databases supporting operational and mission needs. Key Responsibilities Partner with users and technical teams to identify database requirements and implement effective data storage solutions. Design, build, test, and maintain database systems, including schema design, indexing, and file organization. Monitor and optimize database performance across supported platforms. Plan, implement, and manage database security, including access controls, data integrity, backups, and recovery strategies. Administer user roles, permissions, and security policies in compliance with organizational and mission requirements. Provide technical expertise and guidance on Database Management Systems (DBMS). Coordinate database changes, testing, and implementation activities. Support and manage database-related projects and initiatives. Oversee and mentor mid-level and junior DBAs, ensuring best practices and technical excellence. Ensure databases meet availability, reliability, and security standards. This position is fully onsite in Chantilly, VA

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related STEM field. 12 years' of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 12 years' experience in database administration supporting enterprise or mission systems.
  • Experience administering databases in Unix, Windows, and AWS environments.
  • Strong understanding of database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security best practices.
  • Meets DoD 8140 foundational requirements for a System Administrator with Intermediate proficiency .
  • One or more of the following certifications: IBM Certified Advanced Database Administrator – DB2 10.1 (Linux, Unix, Windows) IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2 10.1 (Linux, Unix, Windows) Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Professional Oracle MySQL 5.6 Database Administrator Certified Professional MCSA: SQL Server 2012 MCSE: Data Platform Solutions
  • TS/SCI clearance adjudication or ability to obtain SCI and pass a poly.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related STEM field.
  • Previous experience supporting government or industry programs in a Database Administration role.
  • Strong proficiency with Linux (RHEL 8.x+) and Windows operating systems, including system builds, configuration, patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced scripting and programming skills using PowerShell, Bash, and Python , with familiarity in R, C/C++, C#, HTML, and Java .
  • Experience using Git for configuration management, version control, and code review workflows.
  • Experience supporting secure, high-availability, or mission-critical database environments.
